Higher damages to be sought in Scout suit

Multnomah County Circuit Judge John Wittmayer agreed to a plaintiff's request that they be allowed to ask the jury for $29 million in damages at the end of the trial that was under way Wednesday in Portland.

U.S. proposes tit-for-tat peace talk plan

An official in Jerusalem said the U.S. officials called for a four-month freeze in housing construction in East Jerusalem, including the Jewish neighborhoods of Neve Yaakov, French Hill and Ramat Shlomo, Haaretz reported Wednesday. Israel's recent announcement of new housing construction sparked tensions between Israel and the United States.

Canada nixes building new isotope reactor

The written statement released in Ottawa dismissed recommendations made by an expert panel in December encouraging the government to spend as much as $1.2 billion for a modern isotope reactor, the Canwest News Service reported.
