Physical Education: Good Morning, Falcon Parents...

Grades have been updated.  Here is some help in deciphering your student's grade.

1.  Reflection scores have a 10% deduction from the original score for each day missed.  Students who did not turn in a reflection at all have a 50% less 10% for each day missed.  Students who missed the entire week have a 0.  Students can make up missed days easily, if they would like to, by emailing or talking to Mrs. Corner to select from a list of make-up options.  Students on the leadership team have a score for the 1/26 reflection that represents a team grade for teaching the warm-up.

2.  Quizzes:  A quiz grade of 0/5 means the student didn't take the quiz.  A score of 1/5 means the student took the one question quiz and got the question wrong.  A score of 5/5 means the student took the one question quiz and got the question correct.  A score that says "ex" for the quiz indicates the student was not responsible for taking the quiz.  Leadership team members are not responsible for weekly quizzes.  They should be prepared to complete their final quiz by this coming Friday.

3. Practice quizzes are available each week in google classroom.  These can be taken an unlimited number of times and will show the student what they missed and what the correct answer should have been.  Friday's quiz is almost, if not exactly, the same as the practice quiz.  There is really no reason for students not to get 100% on weekly quizzes.  A practice quiz for this Friday is in google classroom.

4. Extra Credit- On February 9th WEB is hosting a Puppies and Poses yoga class that will take place in our gym.  A local yoga instructor will be donating her time and the rescue group Lil' Bit of Love will be bringing rescue puppies to join the students taking this class (thus...puppies AND poses!).  The cost to participate is $7 in advance and $10 on the day of the event.  All monies will go to the Lil' Bit of Love rescue.  Additionally, WEB is hosting an adoption event with the same rescue group the following day, Saturday February 10th, also in the gym.  Students can earn up to 75 extra credit points for PE by choosing to participate the Puppies and Poses yoga class on February 9th.

We talked to students about grades today.  Please help us in encouraging your student to see their teacher if they believe there is an error in their grade so that it can be corrected.  Thank you for your time and support!

First Period Interventions

This semester, our teacher teams have developed additional academic supports for our students. As a result, we have made some changes to first period classes to provide students with academic interventions that will serve their unique needs.

Some teams will be making informal changes every few weeks and some teams have decided to actually make an actual schedule change of first period teachers.

These changes will assist our students by providing those who may need Language Arts or math interventions, an opportunity to work with that content area teacher during the first period class.

Physical Education: Good Morning, Falcon Parents...

Grades have been updated.  Here is some help in deciphering your student's reflection score.

1.  There is a 10% deduction from the original score for each day missed.  Students can make this up easily, if they would like to, by emailing or talking to Mrs. Corner to select from a list of make-up options.

2.  Students who did not turn in a reflection at all have a 50% less 10% for each day missed.  We are planning to drop one low reflection at the end of the quarter so these students can choose to have this as their drop score.

3.  Students who missed the entire week have a 0.  This can be made up by talking to or emailing Mrs. Corner for a list of make-up options.  We are planning to drop one low reflection at the end of the quarter so these students can choose to have this as their drop score.

4.  Students on the leadership team have a score for the 1/19 reflection that represents a teacher grade for the warm-up.  The 1/26 reflection will represent the team's personal grade for themselves.

We will be offering extra credit to all students.  More information to come shortly on this fun opportunity! :)

Please help me in encouraging your student to see me if they believe there is an error in their grade so that it can be corrected.  Thank you for your time and support!

For away games, bus transportation is provided to and from MMS. Parents must be at MMS to pick up their student when the buses return. You will be given adequate notification of when to meet them at the school. You are always welcome to take your student home with you after away games if you attend. We hope you will be able to attend your child's games and cheer all of our falcon athletes on! We encourage all of our student athletes and fans to show pride, respect, and responsibility and to represent our school well.

Load Stress Test

On Thursday, Jan. 18th all students will be taking a mock assessment on their Chrome Books.  The goal is to ensure our bandwidth can support all students being on the AzMERIT website at the same time.

To prepare for this, we would like to ensure that all Chrome Books are fully charged. Therefore, you child will be leaving their Chrome Book at school on Wednesday.

Fundraiser

The Marana Middle School CIMI Club is hosting a fund raiser at Barro's Pizza (5884 W. Arizona Pavilions Drive) on January 17th. Just mention that you would like to support the Marana Middle School fundraiser and they will donate 20% of the proceeds to our CIMI club.  Thank you Barro's Pizza!

If your household qualified in past school years or your child is new to the school district, please contact 520-682-4734. Eligibility is determined by household size and income criteria.  Children from households whose income is at or below the levels set by the USDA Child Nutrition Program are eligible.  Foster children who are under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court are eligible for free meals regardless of income and should be included on your application. All children in households receiving benefits from SNAP, the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations or TANF, can get free meals regardless of your income.  The online application can be accessed from our home page or click on Food Services under Departments https://www.schoollunchapp.com/Terms.aspx?host=maranausd.schoollunchapp.com&apply=1

If you're concerned with your child being singled out or being embarrassed by receiving a free or reduced lunch, please know that NO ONE BUT YOU will know about their qualification!  Students enter numbers at lunch whether they receive free lunch or not.  Absolutely nothing will change during their lunch routine except the fact that their account will now be linked to their free/reduced status.
