Principal's Message

Good evening Mountain View family,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and that everyone had a chance to spend quality time with friends and family.

This is the last week of November. I am not sure who would believe that we are already turning the calendar to December and the final month of 2018.

As we reflect back on this year and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, our administrative team is ever grateful for the opportunity to work with each of our families, teachers, staff and students.

We do know how lucky we are to be at Mountain View serving all of you.

Our Winter sports season is kicking off and our Fine Arts department is also in full swing with performances. This is a great time to come to campus and experience all of the students as they represent Mountain View in their activities. Take a look at the calendar and join us on campus in December.

Also, as the quarter is nearing the end, please take a moment to visit ParentVue and help push your child to the end. This is the time of year that sees many projects and tests landing on students desks so please lean in and support them through this time. Together we can do it and get to the end of the first semester.

Have a great week and thank you again for all you do for our Mountain Lions.

Todd Garelick
Principal

From the MVHS Front Office,

All students should have their student ID with them at all times. If your student needs one, they can get one in the Bookstore.

Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is now open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus.

With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.

Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area.

Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass.

Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.

A Note from the Attendance Office

When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.

"STUDENT ABSENCES"

In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.

"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"

Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals.

Bio/Bio-Med Intro 1 S1: Biology update/Happy Thanksgiving

Hello Parents! We are at Thanksgiving break and time to review your student's scores. I have updated things today, including the Unit test for Ecology. Your student had a paper packet to review on last Friday, all power-points and pertinent notes are posted into their chrome book as we go through a Unit. If a score on the following items is showing a zero, they can still turn those in by Monday Nov 26: ( Kaibab deer graph, Succession on line worksheet, Oh Deer Lab) They were told that they could earn a retake on the unit test if:

1. The review was completed on test day

2. They score lower than 60 % (24/40).

If your child missed today's test, they will have a makeup on Monday Nov 26 in class.

What I saw was that students that failed the test also did not do the review, and frequently have missing assignments or incomplete work. Attendance does matter, and as we go towards the end of semester 1, please try to be sure your student is at class as much as possible. We have final exam review and final exams the week of Dec 17-20. If you know in advance you will need to take your child out of school early, please notify all of their teachers so we can get them their finals early. Thank you in advance for your support, and have a pleasant, safe holiday weekend.
