Message From: Peter Geske

Hello parents and guardians,

Hope the new year is going well for you.  We would like to let you know the latest on what is going on in our classroom.  The last time we emailed you was around Thanksgiving and we had a cultural museum walk in our classroom that turned out to be a huge success.  Thank you for your help on that.   This time around there is another project due on January 31st that we would like your support on as well.  This assignment is worth 50 points.

Your children have the directions on our googleclassroom for their periods. They are to write a review on any topic they want.  It is their choice.   The type of witting it would read like would be a restaurant review or a car review.

The assignment is due the 31st of January with the rough draft on the 29th.  The assignment was given to them in the 23rd of January.  There will be a total of 7 quiet classwork days (close to 7 hours) in school plus a weekend equaling 9 days and many hours to work on this.

We are asking for your support again so that your child may be successful.

Thank you,

Ms. Sissener and Mr. Geske

Mountain Lion Monday

Good evening Mountain View family,

I shared with our staff last Friday that it feels like we are back in our regular school routine the second week of the semester. That said, we are now there and we are officially back. Remember this Friday is the district Professional Development Day and Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We will not be in school either of those two days.

As I mentioned, we met with our staff last Friday. We shared data from the first semester, including passing rates, attendance and discipline. I've shared some of this data already as these data points support the shift in our grading philosophy at Mountain View. As we continue to promote our school goals and focus on student engagement we expect to see these data points mirrored in the second semester.

Next Wednesday we will host Future Mountain Lion Night. The Class of 2024 comes to us comes to us from across the Northwest and we are excited to welcome them to our great school.

Also, please check out our extracurricular calendar for information on upcoming games.

Have a great week.

Parents and Students,

Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Students and Parents - The D-wing gate will be the only gate open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus.

With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.

Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area.

Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass.

Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.

A Note from the Attendance Office

When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.

"STUDENT ABSENCES"

In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444.

"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"

Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals.

College, Career, Counseling

MVHS Parents/Guardians,

Just a reminder that counselors will be meeting with all of our students January 21st-23rd  to talk to them about their course selections, 0 hour/TA contracts requirements and deadlines, requirements for off-campus privileges and new course offerings for the 2020-2021 school year.

In addition, we will provide speed advising for course selection questions February 5th-7th during lunch. This is a great opportunity to ask quick questions about course selection. For more in-depth questions, we request that students make an appointment after their course selection presentation (after January 23rd).

Junior students will be met with one-on-one following our course selection presentations, to make sure that they have a plan for after high school, know their next steps to that plan, continue to pick classes that support that plan, and know their progress towards graduation.

We encourage you to talk to your student(s) about their plans for their 2020-2021 courses, post-high school plan and their graduation progress. If they have any questions or aren't sure what they want to do, please encourage them to make an appointment with their counselor or the College and Career Center.

If you have any questions or concerns in regards to your student(s) plan or graduation progress, please do not hesitate to contact us at 520.579.4450.

ATTENTION Parents of Juniors

January 8, 2020

Dear Mountain View Families,

Beginning March 24th, Mountain View 11th graders will have 4 chances to take the ACT. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students. According to the Princeton Review:

The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. It is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test.

The purpose of the ACT test is to measure a high school student's readiness for college and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays. How important ACT scores are in the college application process varies from school to school.

Overall, the higher you score on the ACT and/or SAT, the more options for attending and paying for college will be available to you.

Students will select 1 of 4 dates to take the exam: March 24, 25, 26, or 31. The exam will be administered in the Mountain View library between 8am and 12pm. Students will be excused from their classes.

There is a limited number of spots for each testing date. Students interested in taking advantage of this opportunity should check their student Gmail account for links to each date's registration form. Once students select their testing date, their spot is final.

If you have any questions, please contact Matt Tidwell at m.a.tidwell@maranausd.org

Sincerely,

Matt Tidwell
