Covid Email Notification

February 24, 2021

Hello,

The health and well-being of our staff and students is a top priority. I would like to take this opportunity to share newly identified health information.

  • We have one case of COVID-19 in a student at Mountain View High School identified on 2/23. The individual was not on campus while contagious and there were no additional exposures.

We are choosing to send this notification to inform you whenever there is a confirmed positive case in the school in an effort to keep our families and staff informed. Exposure is defined as being within six feet of the sick person for more than 15 minutes while the person was infectious beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or the test date if asymptomatic. Regardless of the outcome of exposures, any individual who was exposed will be asked to quarantine for at least 14 days or follow the acceptable options to shorten quarantine outlined here.

Visit MUSD's COVID-19 Resource and Communications Center to access links and information related to support services, mitigation plans, meal options and more. MUSD also maintains a COVID-19 Dashboard, which is a live, real-time tracking system of active and resolved cases giving you a snapshot of COVID-19 at MUSD. The Dashboard is refreshed every five minutes, so data will change as it is entered.

MUSD continues to follow the public health safety guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Pima County Health Department. Our schools practice enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, social distancing, hand washing, limiting visitors to campus and the requirement of a face covering. We are taking the necessary steps to protect the health of students and staff, which is our number one priority.

Learn more about MUSD's student illness protocol for COVID-19. MUSD staff can find COVID-19 employee illness protocol here.

If you have further questions about this notice, please contact Mountain View High School Health Services at 520.579.4400.

Sincerely,

Todd Garelick
Principal

Mountain Lion Monday

marquee

Good evening Mountain Lion family

Happy Rodeo Week. Attached you will find our condensed schedule for this week as well as our bell schedule for the remainder of the school year. Please note that we are now following our normal bell schedule and school now ends on Monday through Thursday at 3:10 p.m. Friday will continue to be a 1:55 p.m. release time. Please also note that this Wednesday is remote for all students. Additionally, I want to thank everyone that took the time to return their commitment surveys last week.

Last week I shared information about our goals at Mountain View. Those goals are Student Engagement, Interventions and Grading/Assessment. As I also shared last week, with our new grading philosophy we implemented two years ago, we have established a baseline score of 50. We have seen other local districts begin to follow that same philosophy and both Amphitheatre Schools and Catalina Foothills are now using the 50% baseline for student grades. For some, this feels like students are awarded credit for not doing any work. We look at this in a much different way. We still require students to do work and use our No Opt Out program to make sure that students do their work. This has been far more challenging to implement in our remote and hybrid learning models. The reason I share that is that as you look at your students grades from the third quarter, if they are attending school and engaged in their learning opportunities they should have a grade well above the 50% baseline. Our teachers are working very hard with their students to create opportunities to students to demonstrate their learning and provide students with passing grades that reflect this learning. Without engagement in their classes, students will not be successful. We want all of our students to be successful and we have interventions in place right now to help students that are attending class, whether in-person or remotely, but have had a difficult time passing their classes. If you feel that your student needs more supports, please reach out to your child's teachers or school counselor.

This past weekend, students from the Mountain View Auto program attended the Universal Technical Institute Top Tech Challenge.  Simon Johnson and Isaac Cuthbertson placed first out of 21 teams.  They each received a $10,000 scholarship to UTI if they choose to attend and the shop received a large Snap On tool box filled with tools.   These are awesome kids and they did an amazing job. (See attached picture)

During this Remote/Hybrid Learning, we are changing our attendance procedure

In Short:

  • If your child is marked present for class, there is nothing to do.
  • If your child is marked absent, and you can verify that s/he did engage with school work, complete and submit the form so we can reflect that in Parent and StudentVue.
  • The form must be completed for each child separately.
  • The form can be re-used, and must be submitted for each day that you wish to correct.

Parent Attendance Form:  https://forms.gle/VXecea9BBftfxHJF9

Week of February 22 - Rodeo Break week:

Mon, February 22: Cohort A in-person, regular bell schedule

Tues, February 23: Cohort B in-person, regular bell schedule

Weds, February 24th: Remote Learning for all learners

Below is some valuable information regarding our ParentVUE app. We reference this often as this app will allow you to see your child's grades. As we have entered the mid-point of the third quarter it would be a great time to check in on grades and attendance for your child.

College, Career, Counseling

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Student's Course Request Selection Google form and online StudentVUE Course Selection Requests, were due February 11th. Students had time to complete this StudentVUE & Google entry in both their English and Summit classes. In addition, Counselors have reached out directly via email to both students and their parent/guardian if their student has not completed these requests.

To see if your student has completed their StudentVUE entries, you can have them open their StudentVUE, click on "Course Request" and you should see something similar to the following:

  • Students should have 12 selected course requests (6 classes)
    • Students should pick a grade level appropriate English, Math, Science and Social Studies in addition to electives for a total of 12 course requests or 6 classes
  • 6 selected alternate course requests (3 classes).
    • These are their alternative elective courses.

Student who have not completed this process, should do so as soon as possible. Instructions and videos on how to enter course selection requests through Google form and StudentVUE can be found in their graduating class Google Classroom.

If your student is not part of their Graduating Class Google Classroom, please make sure they join.

Class of 2024: Join Code- pv7wta7

When requesting a transcript:

If student is on campus, we like to have the purple form by the registrar's office filled out OR an email (they must use a personal email and not their MV gmail address) requesting them.  During Covid we've been accepting phone requests too, but we're trying to get away from that when possible. Parents may request them for their student in the same ways providing the information needed (name of student, DOB, where to send or pick up).  Anyone should email me their request: s.a.pedersen@maranausd.org

They need to provide the name, address and/or email of where they'd like it sent.

The requests are sent within 48 hrs, but most of the time sooner than that.  They can also just pick up their transcript at the front office the next day if they want to send it out themselves.
