Covid Email Notification

March 30, 2021

Hello,

The health and well-being of our staff and students is a top priority. I would like to take this opportunity to share newly identified health information.

We have one case of COVID-19 in a staff member at Mountain View High School identified on 3/29. Contact tracing was conducted and there were no additional exposures. Impacted areas have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

We are choosing to send this notification to inform you whenever there is a confirmed positive case in the school in an effort to keep our families and staff informed. Exposure is defined as being within six feet of the sick person for more than 15 minutes while the person was infectious beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or the test date if asymptomatic. Regardless of the outcome of exposures, any individual who was exposed will be asked to quarantine for at least 14 days or follow the acceptable options to shorten quarantine outlined here.

Visit MUSD's COVID-19 Resource and Communications Center to access links and information related to support services, mitigation plans, meal options and more. MUSD also maintains a COVID-19 Dashboard, which is a live, real-time tracking system of active and resolved cases giving you a snapshot of COVID-19 at MUSD. The Dashboard is refreshed every five minutes, so data will change as it is entered.

MUSD continues to follow the public health safety guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Pima County Health Department. Our schools practice enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, social distancing, hand washing, limiting visitors to campus and the requirement of a face covering. We are taking the necessary steps to protect the health of students and staff, which is our number one priority.

Learn more about MUSD's student illness protocol for COVID-19. MUSD staff can find COVID-19 employee illness protocol here.

If you have further questions about this notice, please contact Mountain View High School Health Services at 520.579.4400.

Sincerely,

Todd Garelick
Principal

Mountain Lion Monday

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

We have made it to the last week of March. In many ways it seems we just started this semester and now we are looking at preparing for the huge events that close out our school year. Last week we began planning our annual Grad Walk activity for our feeder pattern and we are also planning our Honors Night event. These are special events that allow us to honor our highest performing students and to honor the teachers and schools that helped shape our graduating class. More information on these events will be available soon.

We have also stepped up our interventions since we returned to in-person learning. Interventions are one of the goals for Mountain View this year and we have worked to find ways to assist our students that have been struggling with remote learning or had a hard time transitioning during hybrid learning. Should you have questions about your child please contact their counselor and request support. We have a tiered system to ensure every student can receive some level of support to help them complete this school year successfully.

A quick  reminder about graduation:
The 2021 Mountain View graduation ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 18th, at 8 p.m. on Wayne Jones Field.
We are very excited to announce that we will be having this ceremony in-person this year.
With this announcement, we can also share that each graduating senior will receive four tickets for entry to graduation.
We are limited on capacity and we do understand the issues this could present. However, the good news is we will be able to allow people to attend the ceremony.
For students that are not able to attend the in-person graduation, we will have an alternative option available. A Sign-up Genius will be shared later this spring containing more information.

Also, you will see attached information regarding caps and gowns. Please contact Josten's with any questions.

This summer we will again be hosting our ELEVATE transition camp. The dates for this are July 26 and July 27. New student orientation will be held July 29th. Each of these will run from 8:15 – 11:30. We will be sharing more information soon about how to register and what you need to know.

Have a great week.

Congratulations Wrestlers

The wrestling team (see attached photo) finished the state tournament this past weekend as State Runners-Up! This is their 5th state trophy in the past 8 years. They had a school record - 5 STATE CHAMPIONS! ( Daniel Miranda, Brandon Paredes, Austin Scott, Chris Lopez & Rudy Acedo) This is a feat that only a few schools have accomplished in AZ Wrestling history.

We are so proud of our girls too! Lilian & Yselas Gradillas-Flores under the leadership of Coach Majalca . They only had the opportunity to wrestle two matches prior to the state tournament this season. Ysela finished as the State Runner Up at 152lbs and Lilian went 3-2 at 145lbs.as a Freshman in the toughest weight class in the state. They have built a great foundation for the future of MVHS Girls Wrestling!

Coach Ponce would also like to give a big shout out to his coaching staff. They continue to dedicate their lives to MVHS Wrestling and to each student-athlete in our wrestling family. They continue to make a huge impact in the lives of our wrestlers!

Fourth Quarter Welcome & Update from Superintendent

MUSD Letterhead 2020-2021

March 26, 2021

Hello MUSD families,

It has been an exhilarating week welcoming so many of our students back to our schools in-person! Our students were equally thrilled to return to class, interacting with fellow students and their teachers. I want to thank you for your patience and commitment to your child's education and well-being while navigating an extremely challenging year.

In the final quarter of school, I want to emphasize the District's continued commitment to enforcing multi-layered mitigation strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Yesterday, Governor Doug Ducey released a new Executive Order that rescinds a number of previous Executive Orders. It is important to note that this new Executive Order does not include or rescind Executive Order 2020-51, requiring masks in all K-12 schools, or the emergency order from Arizona Department of Health Services AZDHS Emergency Measure 2020-04 that requires school districts to have a face covering policy in place.

As a result, face coverings remain a requirement at all Marana Unified School District schools and offices. The use of face coverings is a top mitigation strategy for safe in-person learning as recommended by the CDC.  Face coverings must be worn on all MUSD school campuses and District offices, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Thank you for your continued support of MUSD, our teachers and students, and let's finish this school year out strong, together!

Thank you,

Daniel Streeter, Ed.D.
Superintendent

MVHS Spring 2021 State Assessment Schedule

March 23, 2021

To Our Mountain View Community,

This spring, Mountain View High School will begin conducting our state assessments. These assessments are an important tool that are used by teachers to measure whether students are mastering the skills they need to be successful in college, career, and life.

  • All sophomores will take the AzM2. The AzM2 is designed to measure proficiency of the English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards.
  • All juniors will take the AzSCI. The AzSCI is designed to measure proficiency of the newly adopted Science Standards.

Important information and dates for each exam are as follows:

  • AzM2: April 12 through April 23
    • Sophomore students are tested in ELA and Math
    • Students will test with their current ELA and Math teachers during class
  • AzSCI: April 14 and 15
    • Junior students are tested in Science
    • Students will test with their current Science teachers

For sophomores and juniors learning remotely:

Sophomores and juniors who will be learning remotely will not test with their onsite colleagues. Remote students have the opportunity, if they choose, to come to campus on Friday, April 16th or 23rd to complete either the AzM2 or AzSCI. Please follow this link to sign up for a date: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/remotelearners

In order to accommodate this change, we will be running a modified block schedule between April 12 and April 23. Please see the bell schedule that accompanies this letter for further reference.

Passing these exams are not currently a graduation requirement for high school students. However, we ask that you encourage your child to take their assessments seriously and prepare for this test as best as possible.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Tidwell at 579-4412, or email m.a.tidwell@maranausd.org.

Sincerely,

Matt Tidwell

Associate Principal

This information is only for our traditional before and after school bus pick up/drop off and not activity buses.

In addition to displaying the location of your bus and sending the notifications, you can also receive time-sensitive messages from our transportation department.

Security is important, and only you will have access to your student's transportation information through the app via a secure login process. You must know your student's school, ID number and date of birth.

The Edulog bus app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Visit https://www.maranausd.org/BusApp for download information and instructions.

Thank you,

Good evening Mountain Lion families,

We have reached the fourth quarter of the school year. One year ago we were beginning our second week of Spring Break and trying to get a handle on what was coming next. Nobody would have guessed what the last year would have looked like but the good news is today we returned to four days a week of in-person learning. That is exciting and we are all glad to be putting the last twelve months behind us.

One of the goals at Mountain View that I have shared often is student engagement. Now that we have returned to school it is vital that our students are engaged in their learning and actively participating in their classes. With less than nine weeks left until the end of the semester it is time to buckle down and get to work. I do believe that being able to interact with peers and teachers more during the week will help most of our students and this transition should be very beneficial for our students. However, engagement is the key to success.

I wanted to again share the reminder about graduation:

Thank you and let's finish the year strong, together.
