Mountain Lion Monday

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

I hope everyone had a great Rodeo break and is excited to return for the last three weeks of the third quarter. With the quarter ending on March 13th and state assessments beginning in early April things will be moving fast from now through the end of the school year. Our graduation ceremony will take place on May 19th at 8 p.m. on Wayne Jones Field at Mountain View. There will be more details to come but mark your calendar for this special night.

Another special event tied to our graduation is Grad Night. We are asking, on behalf of our amazing Grad Night committee, for donations to help support this great night. At this time, the committee is looking for gift cards from local merchants that can be given away at Grad Night. They are also open to help with the building process or other financial support. We appreciate your help in supporting this group.

We have been engaging in focus groups with some of our students over the last few weeks. The conversations have been very meaningful and we greatly appreciate the feedback from our students. The topics range from our PBIS messaging to school safety and many other items in between. We find it valuable to listen to our students and to try to meet them where they are in regards to important school issues.

Have a wonderful week and thank you.

Mountain Lion Monday

Good evening Mountain Lion families and Happy Rodeo Week.

We want to start with a huge congratulations to our Mountain View Wrestling team and the coaching staff. The Mountain View Wrestling team captured their 2nd straight AIA D2 State Runner-up trophy this past weekend in Prescott Valley.  The Mountain Lions tied a school record with ten wrestlers earning all-state honors. The team was led by Gilbert Rodriquez and Chris Lopez, who both won the state title at their respective weight classes. With only one senior on the team, the future looks bright for the Mt. Lions! Congratulations!!

Our Grad Night committee is looking for help again this year. One of the ideas they need the most help with is the collection of gift cards. We are asking any and all families to help with our Grad Night event and bring in gift cards that can be used at our local vendors. If you are able to help please bring the cards to Ms. Sims in our counseling department. A big thank you in advance for your help with this great event.

In three weeks we will be hosting the St. Baldrick's event at Mountain View. The St. Baldrick's Foundation raises money for childhood cancer research. Our event is March 6th from 5-9 p.m. in our Old Gym.

Letter from MUSD Superintendent

MUSD Letterhead

February 14, 2020

Dear MUSD Parent/Guardian:

As you are aware, I will be retiring on June 30, 2020. It has been my greatest honor to serve as the Superintendent of the Marana Unified School District since July 2008, working with outstanding Governing Board members, educators, staff, and leadership. Marana is a very special place where everyone shares a passion for your student's well-being and success.

With that said, I am writing to provide you an update regarding the superintendent search and selection process. Following a nationwide search over the past several months, experienced search firm Ray and Associates, Inc. received 45 applications for superintendent and identified 11 candidates to bring to the MUSD Governing Board based on criteria set by the Governing Board with input provided by parents, employees, and community members. During a meeting on January 30, 2020, the Governing Board narrowed the 11 candidates to a list of six semifinalists for interview. On February 7 and 8, the Governing Board conducted interviews. At last night's Governing Board meeting, the board voted 5-0, in favor to hire Dr. Dan Streeter, effective July 1, 2020.

Dr. Dan Streeter currently serves as the superintendent for the Humboldt Unified School District in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Currently in his fifth year as the superintendent for Yavapai County's largest school district, Dr. Streeter leads a major strategic reform plan focused on redefining, redesigning and reimagining education with a focus on a collaborative system-wide vision of 21st century education.

Prior to his service as the superintendent, Dr. Streeter served as an assistant superintendent, director of human resources and principal for the Humboldt Unified School District. Dr. Streeter earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University with a research emphasis in personalized learning environments. Additionally, he received his National Superintendent Certificate from the American Association of School Administrator's (AASA) as a part of the 2019 West Coast Cohort. Dr. Streeter, his wife, and two children have lived in the Prescott area for the past eleven years.

I am confident that Dr. Streeter will work hard on behalf of your student and family, our staff, and the Marana community. Dr. Streeter is looking forward to joining MUSD and becoming a part of a district that has embraced new models of engagement that are learner-centered aligned with a strong focus on the empowerment of teachers. He has already shared his belief that together, working hand in hand with teachers, staff, leaders, parents, community members and students, the District will continue to evolve into the future establishing a national model of educational excellence.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our outstanding District. I wish you the very best and know that great things will continue in MUSD.

Regards,

Doug Wilson, Ed.D.
