Good afternoon! Progress reports for Quarter 2 will be posting shortly, so now is as good a time as any to confer with you. Although all my classes have been very busy since the return from fall break, we have not had many “gradable” assignments thus far. There are several in the works, as we finish a major writing assignment, and begin reading a novel.
All English classes completed a grammar exam, and performed very, very well. They are currently working on a 5-paragraph essay, which is due this week. Every day of the last two weeks, students have had class time to develop and shape their paper. Because of the amount of class time devoted to the assignment, I will not accept late submissions except in cases of extended absences. Students are aware of the deadline, and have daily reminders to stay on top of it. If there are missing or incomplete assignments in the progress report, I will modify the grade as soon I receive them. Please remind your student of the importance of turning in work on time, and making up any missing or incomplete assignments.
Later this week, we will begin reading The Lord of the Flies. There will be a partner-writing project at the end of the novel, as well as a smaller writing assignment and various in-class activities throughout. Students will also take a final exam prior to winter break.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your student’s progress, or anything else for that matter.
