Clinton assures U.S. support

Clinton, on a mission to widen bilateral relations beyond just jointly fighting terrorism and to contain rising anti-American feelings, arrived in Lahore on the second day of her visit to Pakistan, where people remained in shock following Wednesday's deadly blast in Peshawar. The attack, the deadliest in two years in the terror-ravaged country, killed more than 100 people.

Peshawar blast death toll tops 100

Wednesday's blast, the second such attack this month in the capital of Pakistan's North-West Frontier province, went off in a crowded market and shopping area of the city frequented by women, killing and wounding mostly women and children. A suicide car bombing Oct. 9 killed at least 49 people and injured 135 others.

Obama wants detailed Afghanistan analysis

Such a study would help the president assess which of these provinces are managed well by Afghan leaders and local militias and which would need outside help as he decides how many additional troops to deploy there, the senior administration official told The Washington Post.
