Dalai Lama meeting 'pathetic'

It is pathetic to see Obama is likely to succumb to domestic politics and go ahead with a plan to meet the Tibetan spiritual leader, the newspaper said. China accuses the Buddhist monk, living in exile in India, of trying to promote independence for Tibet.

Iraq warns of more pre-election violence

In a statement, army command operations spokesman Qassim Atta in Baghdad said terrorists were working to disturb and disrupt the 40-day mourning period following Ashura, a Shiite celebration of the death of Mohammed's grandson, Hussein, who died in a battle in Karbala in the year 680 A.D., the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported.

Obama calls for return of civility

At times, it seems like we're unable to listen to one another; to have at once a serious and civil debate. And this erosion of civility in the public square sows division and distrust among our citizens, Obama told National Prayer Breakfast participants in Washington. It poisons the well of public opinion. It leaves each side little room to negotiate with the other.

Rabin's killer allowed to talk to media

Amir, 39, was in court for a hearing on extending his period of solitary confinement for another six months, Ynetnews.com reported. He has been held in solitary since his arrest after shooting Rabin in November 1995.
