A jet or turbo-jet powered aircraft uses more fuel flying at 25,000 feet than 30,000 feet. The higher it flies, the thinner the atmosphere and the less atmospheric resistance it must buck.

How did Mac measure up?

Country singer Mac Davis made his movie debut playing Nick Nolte's pro football buddy in North Dallas 40 (1979). Standing 5' 10" in his stocking feet, however, Davis was far smaller than the other guys in the huddle. So for several shots, he tried a film technique perfected by Alan Ladd -- he stood on a box.
