Why Do Cats Pee Outside the Litter Box? By Luke Blaise If you are like some pet owners you are probably wondering why cats pee outside of the litter box? In reality, the reasons why they do this are pretty simple, but trying to solve this problem can be difficult. If you are experiencing your cat peeing outside of the litter box here are some things that you can do right now to help. First of all, cats can stop using the litter box for a large number of reasons. But the most common ones are medical, stress, or behavioral problems. Medical problems could include anything like urinary tract infections or bladder stones. Also cats that are stressed may pee outside of the litter box to mark their territory if there are new cats in the house or new people in the house. Irregardless of the cause, here are some things that you can do. It's always best to have a physical exam done on your cat if you notice any changes in their behavior. This is good to rule out medical problems like Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease or Feline Urological Disorder. Also a trip to the veterinary clinic can rule out hormonal changes through simple blood tests. For most behavioral causes or causes of stress, it's best to isolate the cat in its own room for a period of a few days until it starts to properly use the litter pan again. Make the room was quiet as possible and give the cat food and water bowls as well. Only after the cat has started to use the litter box properly in the private room do you let it out into the rest of the house. So as you can see cats pee outside of the litter box for a wide variety of reasons. ======== Cat Behavior Solutions: Whatever the cause of your cat's bad behavior, the important thing is to correct it quickly.
