Suicide attack kills 16 in Afghanistan

Those killed in Thursday's explosion in the town of Deh Rawood were all civilians, including women and children, The Washington Post reported. Several more people were wounded in the attack, one of the largest militant attacks on civilians in recent months.

Israeli convoy unharmed in bomb attempt

The official said he couldn't confirm whether al-Qaida or another terror group, such as Hezbollah or possibly Hamas, was behind the bombing attempt on the convoy, in which no injuries were reported, Ynetnews.com reported Friday. However, the official said the attempt Thursday indicated Jordan's security forces could be infiltrated and strategic assets struck.

Man pleads guilty in plot to kill Obama

Paul Schlesselman of West Helena, Ark., pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of conspiracy, one count of threatening to kill and inflict bodily harm upon a presidential candidate and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, the department said in a release.

U.S. grand jury files charges


9:03 AM, January 15

The U.S. Justice Department on its Web site said the 12-count superseding indictment returned Thursday alleged they participated in planning a terrorist attack against a Danish newspaper and the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai in which about 164 died including six Americans.
