Asian survivors remember tsunami victims

About 150,000 people died in and around the Indonesian city Dec. 26, 2005, when an undersea earthquake off Sumatra triggered large waves that killed 250,000 people in 14 countries. Indonesian Vice President Boediono said a prayer at a mass grave site of the tsunami victims, CNN reported, while grieving residents wept and left flowers.

Former Klan member is ordained minister

Former Klan member Johnny Lee Clary said he was authorized by the Church of God in Christ to take part in the ministry of racial reconciliation and conduct evangelism campaigns, the Tulsa (Okla.) World reported Saturday.

Zardari hits out against critics

Speaking at a gathering in Naudero near his hometown in Sind province to observe the second anniversary of the assassination of his wife and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Zardari hit out against his critics, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported. Zardari and his Pakistan People's Party were elected to power last year.

Retail data show mild improvement

SpendingPulse, which tracks cash, check and credit card transactions, reported November through Dec. 24 sales rose 3.6 percent over the same period of 2008. Even after an adjustment for the extra shopping day between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, sales rose about 1 percent, The New York Times reported Monday.
