Three linked to rabbi's slaying killed

The newspaper, without naming sources, said Israeli special forces, operating in the occupied West Bank overnight Friday with members of the Shin Bet spy agency, shot and killed three Palestinians said to be responsible for the Thursday drive-by slaying of Rabbi Meir Chai.

Iranians to protest on religious holiday

The holiday, the culmination of the first 10 days of the Islamic month Muharram, remembers the doomed seventh century battle of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the prophet Muhammad, to retain the throne of Islam. To commemorate Hussein's struggle, Shiite Muslims ritually whip themselves and chant Ya Hussein.

Rights activist crosses into North Korea

The activists said Saturday that Robert Park, 28, who heads a coalition of groups focusing on defectors from North Korea and the communist country's human rights conditions, illegally entered the North Christmas Day, crossing the frozen Tumen River while carrying a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

Obamas spend another Christmas in Hawaii

The first couple went to Marine Corps Base Hawaii Friday, as they did last Christmas before Barack Obama's inauguration, where they worked out at the base's Semper Fit gym beginning about 6:50 a.m., The Honolulu Advertiser reported.
