Law orders salt-water fishing registration

The Baltimore Sun said Thursday as part of the National Saltwater Angler Registry approved by the U.S. Congress, recreational anglers in eight coastal U.S. states will receive registration numbers to take part legally in salt-water fishing.

Philanthropist Lilly dead at age 94

The Indianapolis Star said Lilly inherited an estimated $800 million from her great-grandfather, pharmaceutical magnate Eli Lilly, and used the bulk of that estate on philanthropic ventures.

Civilian airplane forced to land in Fla.

FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac said the pilot, whose identity was not released, did not respond to air traffic controllers while taking a Cessna 425 fixed wing airplane for a test flight Wednesday when, the Naples (Fla.) Daily News reported.

California eyeing sobriety checkpoints

Chris Murphy, head of the state's Office of Traffic Safety, said the planned use of sobriety checkpoints throughout the state will serve as a public relations campaign intended to deter people from driving intoxicated, The Sacramento Bee said Thursday.
