Tips for Healthy Travel

Adin Smith

When you travel on a bus, train or airplane you are sitting in close proximity to a large number of people without much air space to share. Unfortunately, many people that are sick with colds and coughs continue to use these various modes of transportation and spread their germs around these close encounters.

Keep Hydrated - Dehydration can cause headaches, emotional and physical fatigue and lower your immunity. This also means watch your caffeine, salt and alcohol intake, which can all cause dehydration.

Get Sleep - Getting a good night's sleep before you travel is a must, yet it's not always possible. When you didn't sleep well before the flight, do what you can to sleep on the flight. Bring a pillow, music and anything else that will help you to be comfortable so you can get some z's in the air.

Know what you are going to eat, When traveling it is best to have some snacks with you and when you go out to eat have a general idea of what you are going to order. You will be less likely to be swayed by tempting calorie filled menu options.

Your Boston Terrier may be prone to traveler's diarrhea, so always give your dog filtered or bottled water. An alternative could be to carry water from home for them.

If you are traveling to a foreign country, make sure you know who and where to call if you have a medical emergency requiring the attendance of an English-speaking doctor.

After your visit to the doctor's office, it's time to deal with more mundane issues. First among these is the universal concern with Montezuma's Revenge, aka the tourista, or "traveler's diarrhea" which results from consuming tainted food or water.

Look up the telephone number of a veterinarian in your final destination. When your pet gets hurt is not the time to look for health care for them. Make sure that your dogs vaccinations are up to date. Keep up to date dog tags on your dogs collar in case you should be separated.

Taking immune system supplements is another good way to stay healthy on the road. Vitamin C, Echinacea, and Zinc are great for boosting your immune system.

Traveling might be tiring as well. As you find a new place interesting, you might not realize that you already explored the place over your physical limit. Vitamin C is really good to keep your stamina. It also prevents you from getting sick easily. Consume 500 mg of vitamin C per day is effective to keep you up.
