Letter from MUSD Superintendent - COVID19

MUSD Letterhead

March 3, 2020

Dear MUSD Parent/Guardian:

We understand that there is much concern over the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19. In our ongoing commitment to be proactive and ensure that MUSD is doing everything we can to protect the health and wellness of students and employees during this period of heightened public health awareness, the District is in regular contact with the Pima County Health Department regarding school-based infection control guidelines and outbreak planning.

Please find attached an important letter from the Pima County Health Department. Pima County Health Department is committed to providing the most up-to-date information at www.pima.gov/CoV. Additional information is available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Website.

Because protection from all respiratory viruses is similar, this is a good time to review strategies to prevent the spread of many illnesses, such as influenza and coronaviruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you cannot wash your hands, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60-95% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes, then dispose of the tissue. When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Stay home when you are sick, and keep sick children home as well.
    • A reminder that students with a fever of 101.0 or greater will be sent home until they are fever-free for 24-hours.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

All of our employees in the Marana Unified School District apply these preventative measures inside of our classrooms and on our campuses in order to provide a healthy learning environment for your student. In addition to disinfecting of learning, eating and play spaces, MUSD has implemented additional cleaning measures focused on main touchpoints such as detailing doorknobs, handles, tables, buses, etc. The cleaning products used by MUSD are effective against coronaviruses. Additional information is available on our District Website at https://www.maranausd.org/cov.

We will continue to remain in close contact with county and state health officials regarding the COVID-19 and we will keep you updated with any developments that could impact our schools.

Sincerely,

Doug Wilson, Ed.D.
