Thanksgiving Without The Guilt By Michael Roizen, M.D., and Mehmet Oz, M.D. A Thanksgiving feast doesn't have to leave you stuffed with regret. Here's how to enjoy the day without being overfull: Eat everything. Yes, including the stuffing, the pumpkin pie, and -- if you're really into it -- your sister in law's Jell-O salad. Just don't eat a lot of it. Your mantra this year is to take less and enjoy it more. The third (or 50th) forkful never has the "wow" of the first, but you can get more pleasure by focusing on the look, smell, texture and taste of every bite. Eat more turkey. Let's face it; at 44 calories per ounce, even 6 ounces of bird isn't what makes your clothes feel snug. Consider chestnuts. Instead of noshing your way through the artichoke parmesan dip before dinner, break out some chestnuts. Ten chestnuts hold just 200 calories, 4 grams of filling fiber and a mere 2 g of fat. Or, fish the walnuts out of the nut bowl: Eating 6 of them 25 to 30 minutes before a meal stimulates CCK, a hormone that tells your brain you are already full. Practice the flip. Our friend Mollie Katzen calls this smart trick "flipping" your meal: Take what used to be on the side of your plate (the salad, the green beans, the roasted asparagus) and make it larger. Take the cheese and potato mix from the center and make it smaller on the side. You get more nutrients and texture, and when everyone else is waddling down the street on your post-meal walk, you'll be feeling great. ======== The YOU Docs, Mehmet Oz and Mike Roizen, are authors of "YOU: Having a Baby."
