Was the Titanic's sinking predicted in 'Futility?'

Fourteen years before the Titanic sailed on an April day in 1912 on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, a novel titled "Futility" was published about an unsinkable and glamorous Atlantic liner, the largest in the world. Like the Titanic, the fictional vessel was triple-screw and could make 24-25 knots; at 800 feet, it was a little shorter than the Titanic, but at 70,000 tons, its displacement was 4,000 tons greater. Like the Titanic's, its passenger list was the creme de la creme and there were not enough lifeboats on board. On a cold April night, the fictional "unsinkable" vessel strikes an iceberg and glides to the bottom of the Atlantic. The name of this liner, in the story by Morgan Robertson, was "The Titan."

How did Tombstone get its name?

Located in Cochise County in southern Arizona, the city of Tombstone is probably the most famous and most glamorized mining town in all of North America. According to legend, prospectors Ed Schieffelin and his brother Al were warned not to venture into the Apache-inhabited Mule Mountains because they would only "find their tombstones." Thus, with a touch of the macabre, the Schieffelins named their first silver strike claim Tombstone, and it became the name of the town.

Who is eligible for a Patsy?

In an industry where award ceremonies are second to oxygen, an award was dreamed up in 1951 to honor animals in the entertainment field. Called Patsy, "P.A.T.S.Y." is an acronym for both "Picture Animal Top Star of the Year" and "Performing Animal Television Star of the Year." Emceeing the first award event was Ronald Reagan. Patsy winners through the years include Francis the talking mule, Lassie, Roy Rogers' horse Trigger, Flipper the dolphin, Arnold the pig (from the TV show "Green Acres"), Bruno the bear (from the TV show "Gentle Ben"), Tramp the dog (from TV sitcom "My Three Sons"), and 9-Lives catfood TV ad personality Morris the cat.
