Falcon Family Flyer

FALCON FAMILY FLYER

Greetings Falcon Families,

PRIDE:

We are very PROUD to be a part of this community of involved, caring parents.  We had well over 800 families join us for Open House on Wednesday. Thank you for the commitment you have shown to your child's education!

RESPECT:

Students are showing us each day that they RESPECT their teachers, each other and the rules of our school. We have had a wonderful two weeks of school!

RESPONSIBILITY:

All students received a Chrome Book this week! The students are so excited.  Please take time to talk to your child about the RESPONSIBILITY that comes with having a computer. Helping your child to develop habits relating to the care and maintenance of the computer will lessen the likelihood that the computer will be damaged.

SOLOR ECLIPSE - MONDAY:

The partial eclipse will start in Tucson at 9:16 a.m. and will end at 12:03 p.m. The "maximum eclipse" will be at 10:36 a.m. We will be reminding students throughout the morning to not look at the sun. Teachers have been talking with students about the risks of looking at the sun. Please reinforce this message at home.

To celebrate the Great American Eclipse, Discovery Education is providing teachers and students nationwide with a host of engaging ways to experience this unique learning opportunity. Visit the following site if you would like to learn more about the experience with your child:  DiscoveryEducation.com/GreatAmericanEclipse.

TUTORING AND GOAL

After school tutoring and GOAL will start next week. Please remember that students can only go to the tutoring offered by their team, but GOAL is open to all students. They just need to be assigned GOAL by a teacher. Ms. Taylor will be offering GOAL on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Monday Tutoring: Thunder and Wildcat

Wednesday Tutoring: Scorpion

Students who stay after school for tutoring must remain in the tutoring classroom until they are picked up by a parents or get on the activity bus.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER:

Please call our office if you ever have any questions or concerns that need to be addressed. In addition to individual meetings with students, counseling lessons and coordinating 504 plans, the Marana Middle School Counseling Department offers a variety of counseling groups to our students. Our groups usually run for 7-9 weeks and our first set of groups will be starting August 21st. Based on interest and availability of facilitators, we offer the following groups throughout the school year:

Anxiety, Conflict Resolution, Healthy Teen Relationships, Self-Esteem, Motivation, Incarcerated Parents/Living with Grandparents, Grief & Loss and Sharing.

If you are interested in having your student in a group, please call or email our office so we can get a permission slip to you. In addition, your student may be bringing home a permission slip. Please make sure it gets signed and brought back to the counseling office. If you have further questions about these groups, please contact our Counseling Secretary, Mrs. Carol Bennett, at 520-682-1715.

Falcon Athletics:

Hello Falcon Families!  Our coaches have been wrapping up their player evaluation and team rosters are coming together.  Know that we do our very best to place each athlete with the correct team that will focus on the goal at hand.  Our highly skilled athletes will face top level competition, while our developmental players will learn needed skills in a fun, team-oriented environment.  If your student was placed on a team other than what their goal was, please help them understand that they are in a spot where they can hone their skills and get the playing time needed to grow into the player they want to be.  While setbacks are inevitable, they can also be opportunities for growth.  If students stay focused on their goals and continue to move forward, they will develop resiliency that will serve them well.  Lifelong success is developed by overcoming adversity as it appears.  We develop these skills with an overall goal of providing a positive experience for all athletes.  Please direct questions to our wonderful Student Services secretary, Sue Miller at 682-4724 or s.z.miller@maranausd.org

Please remember we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our Falcon Athletes.  We are setting them up for success and a very enjoyable first season for all.  We look forward to watching them make us proud as we cheer them on and watch our Falcons win and lose with class.
