The California Air Resources Board (CARB) invites you to
participate in a public workshop to begin discussing concepts for
minimizing community health impacts from seaports, railyards, and
warehouses/distribution centers.
Background
In March 2017, the Board heard public testimony on the South
Coast Air Quality Management District's (SCAQMD's) Plan and
CARB's Mobile Source Strategy for the State Implementation Plan
(SIP). The Board adopted Resolutions 17-7 and 17-8, as well as
an addendum that provided additional direction to staff,
including:
Within 12 months, "…staff shall return to the Board with concepts
for an indirect source rule to control pollution from large
freight facilities including ports, railyards, warehouses, and
distribution centers, as well as any identified alternatives
capable of achieving similar levels of emission reductions…"
This process will involve stakeholder outreach, including formal
workshops and informal meetings, to identify potential options
for reducing emissions from freight facilities and to understand
the relative pros and cons. CARB staff will present concepts to
the Board in March 2018.
Workshops
Workshops will be held at the locations and dates shown below.
Both workshops will follow the same format and present the same
material.
