Potent Anti-Agers, Now Near You

By Michael Roizen, M.D., and Mehmet Oz, M.D.

This week, your grocery store got a shipment of the most powerful anti-agers ever. Not in a bottle. Not in a pill. But in the produce section.

The fruits and vegetables that arrive each week have the power to keep every part of your body young (yes, including that, guys). And we have good evidence that you're not getting nearly as much produce as your body wants.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention took a close look at what you're putting in your cart and your mouth (they didn't spy; they asked nicely) and saw that just 27 percent of people eat three or more servings of vegetables a day, and only 33 percent eat two or more servings of fruit. You can do better than that! And we officially throw down the gauntlet and challenge you to get more. Your body is begging for at least nine handfuls of fruits and vegetables a day to efficiently fuel all the complicated things you do (and that's not even counting posting on Facebook while watching a movie and talking on the phone).

It's not that hard: You could fit four servings of veggies into the container that used to hold Chubby Hubby ice cream (and you considered that a single serving) ... not to mention give yourself loads of nutrients and save about 1,200 calories in the process.

Fruit? The apples that count as a serving are about 3 little inches in diameter. So those monster apples you gravitate toward net you at least two servings. See? Eating produce is a cinch. Go for it.
