Prosecutors: Mitchell faked mental illness

In court documents filed Tuesday, prosecutors said they would present relatives and former neighbors of Brian David Mitchell who will claim the self-proclaimed prophet faked mental illness in a bid to escape responsibility for his crimes, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Florida to rein in debt-collector abuses

The state's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink said she would appeal to state lawmakers to increase the options available to the Office of Financial Regulation. State Attorney General Bill McCollum said he would ask legislators to revamp Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act to include certain tactics debt collectors use, such as posing as legal authorities.

Four Amish cited for not reporting abuse

Webster County, Mo., Prosecuting Attorney Danette Padgett told reporters Tuesday that the four community leaders had been charged with failing to report a sexual crime against a child under 17 years of age in the case of Johnny Schwartz, who has been charged with abusing two young female relatives, the Marshfield (Mo.) Mail reported.
