 | | 12-16-20 Dear MUSD Families, The Marana Unified School District Governing Board will be holding a special meeting on Thursday, December 17 at 4:00 p.m. At this meeting, a recommendation from the administration will be made to temporarily transition to a remote learning environment for a three week period for all Marana schools starting on Monday, January 4 and continuing through Friday, January 22. This recommendation is being made based on the guidance from the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Pima County Health Department due to the current accelerated transmission taking place throughout the community. We are anticipating a second consecutive week of all three indicators (Cases per 100,000; Percent Positivity; and COVID-like Illness) being in the substantial spread category. Thus, the recommendations from both agencies are a return to remote learning models. Additionally, we have seen an increase in staff and student cases and exposures after both the Fall Break and Thanksgiving Break. These increases have significantly impacted our ability to ensure that we have enough staff to maintain safe learning environments. This three week period will allow staff, students, and community members who may have come in contact with the virus during the winter break a period of time to quarantine before resuming hybrid learning. We are hopeful that a temporary return to remote learning will allow for improved metrics as well as allow for adequate time for potential quarantine and isolation situations. A final decision regarding the transition is pending Board approval Thursday afternoon at the meeting. If approved, we will plan on beginning remote learning on January 4 with a plan to return to our hybrid model on Monday, January 25. - MUSD Administration | | | Inspiring students to learn today and lead tomorrow.
