Dear Parents,
I am writing as your student took their first chemistry test this last week. The scores over all were not great. There was three sections to the test. One being on unit conversions, one on reading scales and uncertainty, and the last one being on density. It seemed as if students were only strong in one of the three areas and not in the other two. It was random which students would do well in one area over the other. I am not pleased with the results and I know the students are not either.
I have to put the grades in the grade book; it will not be pretty. I do not want you to judge them harshly as they will have an opportunity to redeem themselves and their grades. If your student did not score well on the density section, they have the opportunity to retake that portion of the test when they feel more confident with the content. I suggest they come in for test corrections/ tutoring. For those that did poorly on scales and/or conversions, we will have bell work to practice these skills for a week or so and then I will give a mini test that will replace the scores currently in the grade book. ?
Please encourage your child to preserver and conquer conversions and scales. They will benefit greatly if they understand the concepts.
If you have questions or concerns, please let me know
