August 16, 2019 Dear MUSD Parent/Guardian: This is an exciting time in the Marana district as we welcomed over 12,700 students last week to what I am confident will be an outstanding 2019-2020 school year. Our educators, staff, administrators, District Leadership, and Governing Board are honored to begin this new journey with you and your student. These past days, District Leadership and I have visited schools, and as always, I was so impressed to already see the excitement of student learning within nurturing and enriching environments. Marana students are challenged, inspired, and empowered. I believe that the Marana Unified School District is the best in the state. We are preparing students for their future and for careers that do not yet even exist. During these constantly changing times and uncertain futures, it is critically important that we provide students with the ability to solve problems, think critically, communicate clearly, work together as a team, and be able to compete in a global society. We take pride in offering a variety of academic choices to meet individual student needs. We are also committed to providing an equitable learning experience where each student's individual needs are identified and that each student learns and succeeds. So many successes continue to occur in our District. Over 850 students graduated from our high schools last spring, earning more than $9,000,000 academic and merit based scholarships, in addition, students achieved a multitude of athletic scholarships to pursue their passion at a higher level. Our Advanced Placement Programs were recognized nationally, we had a student rank the highest on the ACT test, several schools were awarded A letter grades, multiple academic teams and students won state and national competitions, educators were recognized locally and at the state and national level, and so many more successes continue to occur at our schools. Each and every one of us, regardless of our role in the District, shares a common purpose and passion for serving your student. The highest level of quality teaching occurs every day. In fact, we had thousands of educators participate in over 3000 hours of professional learning this summer. Our schools are filled with exceptional teachers and staff who allow students to explore, create, develop, expand, question, and learn. Our District staff work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide quality programs and resources that support students and schools. As we finish up our work this school year aligned with our 2014 School Improvement Bond, we again extend our gratitude and also invite you to visit our From Planning to Progress Bond Webpage to experience all that the District has accomplished through the support of voters. This bond made so many goals come true including safety improvements, student and teacher Chromebooks, classroom furniture, new buses, new schools, renovations and improvements, new marquees, playground equipment and surfaces, energy efficiency, athletic improvements, and so many more campus specific improvements. Thank you. As we embark on a new school year, we encourage you to take an active role in your student's learning. The District offers a variety of tools to be connected and stay informed of school news, events, and activities, as well as engage in your child's academics. Please consider signing up for MUSD Connection (ParentVue/StudentVue), visit your student's school Website and our District Website, download our Mobile App, like and follow your student's school Facebook or the District's social media platforms. Also, please remember to keep your contact information current at your student's school to ensure you receive information through our mass notification system. We look forward to another great year dedicated to each student's success. Thank you for entrusting your student's education to the Marana Unified School District. Have an outstanding year! Sincerely, Doug Wilson, Ed.D. Superintendent Attached: Letter |
