Principal's Message

Good evening Mountain View family,

We have made it through our first week of school. I always feel like the first week is the longest week of the school year. We spend the entire summer planning for the new school year and when the students and staff return some of that planning goes out the window and we quickly regroup and make better plans. Or as Roy Scheider said in Jaws, "We're gonna need a bigger boat." That was my first reaction when we met with each of our classes in the auditorium. The numbers are tremendous and I think they demonstrate that what we are doing at Mountain View is great. We are on a journey with our new grading policy, our tiered interventions and ability to engage students in the classroom. As we shared with our staff last Friday, there will be bumps along the way and things we can learn from but we are heading down the right path and are excited for this school year and the hope and optimism it will produce for our students and our community.

Tonight, Collin Kartchner will be in the Mountain View Auditorium. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Collin is on a crusade to help educate parents on the damage social media and 24/7 access to peer culture will have on their child's mental health. His goal is to help teens rise above social media comparison, negativity, cyber bullying, and the stress of being perfect. Every day Collin gets 100's of message from teens sharing how social media is hurting their mental health, and how his message changed or even saved their lives. Come hear this very important message. I have been fortunate to hear Collin twice and he will not disappoint you.

Wednesday night is Open House. We will begin the auditorium at 5:30 p.m. Following a welcome from me our counselors and administrative team will be in the lobby of the auditorium. Parents will then have the opportunity to walk their child's schedule and learn from their teachers about their classes for this school year.

Have a fantastic week and thank you for your support.

Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus.

With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.

Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area.

Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass.

Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.

A Note from the Attendance Office

When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.

"STUDENT ABSENCES"

In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444.

"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"

Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals.

College, Career, Counseling

MVHS Parents/Guardians and Students,

MVHS counselors and the College and Career Center, will be meeting with all of our freshmen students during the week of August 19h through their English classes. We are excited to get to know them better and introduce them to some important places and people on campus.

We encourage all MVHS students to get to know their counselor as soon as possible. The more we know about them and their future plans or any concerns they may have, the better we can help. If your student would like to make an appointment with their counselor, please have them see Ms. Sims in counseling.
