May 2, 2018 To MUSD Parents/Guardians: As I shared in my communication to you yesterday, school districts across the state were hearing that the budget should be passed today, ending the statewide walkout and reopening our schools. Recently, we learned that there is a lack of progress with the budget approval process resulting in the continuation of the walkout. Due to the large number of absences for tomorrow, all 18 Marana schools will remain CLOSED Thursday, May 3 and REMAIN CLOSED until the walkout ends. Schools will re-open as soon as we have sufficient number of staff to ensure the safety of students in schools. The Marana school district is committed to re-opening schools as soon as possible. We understand the challenges this creates for our students, families, and staff; however, we cannot hold classes, expect meaningful learning to take place, and provide a safe environment without a sufficient number of teachers. I want to assure you that we are continuing to monitor this situation closely. Please know that District and school leadership are continuing to explore all options to minimize future impact on our students and families due to school closure. We will continue to share information as it becomes available regarding the completion of this school year. The District will continue to provide updates to parents through email, phone call, and text as applicable. Information is also available on our Website at www.maranausd.org, in the FAQs, and on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/maranaschools/. Thank you again for your patience, flexibility, and support during these unprecedented times. Sincerely,
Doug Wilson, Ed.D. Superintendent Attached: Copy of Letter |
