May 1, 2018 To MUSD Parents/Guardians: These past weeks and forced school closure have been unprecedented and challenging. We recognize that this has created stress and uncertainty for our students, families, staff, and community. The Governing Board and I appreciate the communication many of you have sent to us and please know your voices are heard. As you are aware, the Arizona Legislature is in the process of holding their public hearings on the Governor's recent budget proposal as part of the entire Arizona budget. We are happy to report that the budget is moving through the approval process, and we are hearing that the budget should be passed tomorrow, Wednesday May 2. As a result, we anticipate re-opening schools on Thursday, May 3. I want to assure you that we are continuing to monitor this situation closely, and will notify you immediately if anything changes. As a reminder, with the large number of school based educator and staff absences for tomorrow, all 18 Marana schools will remain CLOSED Wednesday, May 2. As we prepare to re-open schools, District and school leadership have also been busy exploring all options to minimize impact on our students and families due to school closure. Please continue to visit our Website at www.maranausd.org and read the FAQs for information in addition to the newest updates provided below: - The District is currently in communication with the Department of Education regarding the school calendar and options to not add days to the school calendar due to school closure. We will share information regarding the school calendar as soon as it becomes available to us.
- Graduation ceremonies WILL be held as scheduled.
- Diplomas WILL be issued to graduating seniors at the graduation ceremony for seniors who have earned their graduation requirements as planned.
- The dates for Advanced Placement tests and senior finals will continue as scheduled.
- Deadlines for students earning alternative learning credits will be extended.
- School closure will not impact students' ability to earn credits for dual enrollment or AP courses.
- When schools re-open, teachers will communicate adjusted assignment and assessment due dates to accommodate school closure.
We are thankful for your ongoing support and look forward to schools re-opening and ending our school year on a strong academic note. Sincerely,
Doug Wilson, Ed.D. Superintendent Attached: Copy of Letter |
