May 3, 2018 Good afternoon MUSD Parents/Guardians: This morning the Governor signed the K-12 education budget (HB2663) and we are ready to finish the year strong with our students. All schools will re-open on Friday, May 4 following their regular Friday school schedule. District services will resume, including transportation, food service, and LEAP; however, there will be no after school activity busses. Your school principal will communicate with you regarding activities/events cancelled during school closure. Our educators, staff, and administration are eager and excited to welcome students back to school tomorrow! We look forward to getting back to teaching and learning, and it will be wonderful to see our students again. We know you are anxious to know what the remainder of the school year will look like. We have calculated the instructional hours in our current school year calendar, and have determined that we have sufficient number of instructional hours required by state law. Therefore, the school year for K-12 students will NOT extend beyond the last day of school on Thursday, May 24. As communicated previously, Graduation Ceremonies and issuance of diplomas, finals and Advanced Placement testing will occur as scheduled. These past weeks have been a historic time for education. The state has seen hundreds of thousands of educators and staff stand in solidarity on behalf of their students and education. These activities brought attention to the issue of low public education funding and the need for sustainable solutions to Arizona's educational funding crisis. We are proud of the passion and resiliency demonstrated by our educators and staff during these past weeks. Change does not occur without great effort and dedication. As I have stated many times, we recognize that this has been an emotional and challenging time for our students, families, staff, and community. The patience and cooperation shown over these past weeks has again reminded me that Marana is an incredible place! Thank you again for your patience, flexibility, and support during these unprecedented times. We can't wait to see your children back on Friday! Sincerely,
Doug Wilson, Ed.D. Superintendent Attached: Copy of Letter |
