We are down to just 9 days left in the school year! We have a lot to accomplish and so much to celebrate. Later in the newsletter, I have included information about our 8th grade fun day celebration and our end of year celebration for 7th grade. One of the most exciting things that has happened for MMS, is an addition to our administration team! Next year, we will have three Associate Principals who will be supporting teachers, parents and students. This is a great advantage for us as we work with over 1100 students each day. It brings me get pleasure to announce that Mrs. Tawnya Caldwell will be joining our team. Mrs. Caldwell has been a part of the Marana Community for many years and we are thrilled that she is now a Falcon! Please read the bio below to get to know Mrs. Caldwell even better. My very best, Ms. Dickson | New Associate Principal Mrs. Caldwell | Hello Falcon Families, I am so honored to be the new Associate Principal of Marana Middle School. I wanted to share a little information about myself before the new school year. I moved to Tucson in 1993 when I married my high school sweetheart, Dan, and transferred to the UofA because we both loved the Wildcats! We just celebrated our 25th anniversary this past January. I graduated in 1997 with a bachelors in Elementary Education with an early childhood endorsement. I took a teaching job in the Tempe school district after college because we thought we wanted to move home. But then the following year we moved back to Tucson and have been here ever since. I began teaching at Desert Winds Elementary in the fall of 1998 and did that for 8 years. During that time, I had two children, Zach and Tatum that are now 15 and 18. Zach is now at Pima and Tatum is a freshman at MHS. I then started teaching half time and being an assistant principal half time for two years while I earned my master's degree in Educational Leadership at the UofA. I was then the associate principal at Desert Winds for two years, and then at both DW and Picture Rocks for one year. In 2011, I became the principal of Desert Winds for 5 years and then combined both schools into Picture Rocks Elementary last school year. I have been in MUSD now for the last 20 years. I am very excited to now be a Falcon and I look forward to meeting you all at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
