Mountain Lion Monday

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

I hope everyone is adapting to the new year and has remembered to write 2021 on their correspondence. I feel it always takes a few weeks to stop writing the previous year; I can say with certainty it was much easier to move on from 2020 in that respect.

In the next few weeks we will be sharing out information about two big events happening at Mountain View. First, we will be having our Future Mountain Lion event. In the past, we held an evening Open House and welcomed our new families to campus. This year, due to COVID, we will be hosting Zoom "get to know Mountain View" meetings. Keep an eye out for more information. These will take place on January 25 and January 27. There will be sign-up's available. Also, we will be going through our accreditation in early March. One important aspect of this review is the parent surveys that will be distributed beginning this week. We are asking for honest feedback regarding our school and systems. We also would like you to think about Mountain View outside of the Pandemic. These surveys will provide us with important data we can use for both reflection and growth moving forward. Thank you in advance for participating in the survey.

And, a reminder…Friday is Professional Learning and Collaboration Day for our teachers. We will be following our half-day schedule and school will be dismissed at 12:05 p.m.

During the Remote Learning Model:

  • Students will be expected to use Google Classroom for their course materials. Zoom links will be provided on the Classroom page. Expect to Zoom for up to 25 minutes per class period, daily.
  • Student attendance is marked based on their attendance in Zoom and/or engagement in the daily work.
    • Teachers will enter attendance daily.
    • Students are expected to engage in the Zoom and assignments daily to meet attendance requirements. An absence indicates to a parent that the student is not engaging with the class at the expected time.
    • Students who do not log in to Zoom and who do not complete work during the class period should be marked absent by the teacher.

Below is some valuable information regarding our ParentVUE app. We reference this often as this app will allow you to see your child's grades.

Back to School Updates from Pima County Health Department
The Pima County Health Department and Pima County Superintendent of Schools understand that parents, teachers, staff and students may feel apprehensive about physically returning to school. With this in mind, we created this message to remind everyone of best practices when schools reopen for in-person learning. We invite you to take note of this valuable information. MUSD High School Winter Athletics Update

Due to the continued presence and impact of COVID-19 in Arizona, the Arizona Interscholastic Association Executive Board made the decision to cancel all high school winter sports. As a result, all remaining MUSD winter sports practices and competitions will be canceled effective immediately.

Spring sports are scheduled to start March 1, 2021. However, earlier today the AIA Executive Board indicated that this "will be dependent on statewide metrics improving."

We are proud of the members of our athletics programs and recognize this decision is disappointing to our student athletes, coaches, and families.

Boys Volleyball
If your son is interested in Boys Volleyball, please email Coach Lindsey Spivey to be added to our listserv at l.n.spivey@maranausd.org.  Information and updates can be found on Google classroom with the following code:  6hrvjmv. Tryouts are currently scheduled to begin March 1st, so stay tuned!
