Covid Email Notification

January 29, 2021

Hello,

The health and well-being of our staff and students is a top priority. I would like to take this opportunity to share newly identified health information.

  • We have two cases of COVID-19 in students at Mountain View High School identified on 1/28. Both individuals were not on campus while contagious and there were no additional exposures.

We are choosing to send this notification to inform you whenever there is a confirmed positive case in the school in an effort to keep our families and staff informed. Exposure is defined as being within six feet of the sick person for more than 15 minutes while the person was infectious beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or the test date if asymptomatic. Regardless of the outcome of exposures, any individual who was exposed will be asked to quarantine for at least 14 days or follow the acceptable options to shorten quarantine outlined here.

Visit MUSD's COVID-19 Resource and Communications Center to access links and information related to support services, mitigation plans, meal options and more. MUSD also maintains a COVID-19 Dashboard, which is a live, real-time tracking system of active and resolved cases giving you a snapshot of COVID-19 at MUSD. The Dashboard is refreshed every five minutes, so data will change as it is entered.

MUSD continues to follow the public health safety guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Pima County Health Department. Our schools practice enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, social distancing, hand washing, limiting visitors to campus and the requirement of a face covering. We are taking the necessary steps to protect the health of students and staff, which is our number one priority.

Learn more about MUSD's student illness protocol for COVID-19. MUSD staff can find COVID-19 employee illness protocol here.

If you have further questions about this notice, please contact Mountain View High School Health Services at 520.579.4400.

Sincerely,

Todd Garelick
Principal

Mountain Lion Monday

Good evening Mountain Lion families,

We have entered the fourth week of school for this semester and are nearing our typical progress report time. As you all have access to ParentVUE, this would be a great time to check your students grades and attendance. Today, we returned to the Hybrid Learning Model and remind you that Cohort A attends school on Monday and Wednesday, while Cohort B attends school on Tuesday and Thursday. Friday will remain an academic support time as well as open Zoom classes for our students to interact with their teachers. We want Friday to continue to hold significant and meaningful learning activities for our students.

Thank you again to those of you that completed the Cognia survey. We have had a great response and will use the information collected to inform our future decisions at Mountain View. The accreditation team will be visiting Mountain View virtually the first week of March. We will also be providing a survey for our students in the coming days.

With students back on campus we will continue to follow our mitigation plan we rolled out earlier this year. Please make sure your child has their mask and that they wear the mask appropriately. Also, if your child is not feeling well please do not send them to school. As a district and school, we will continue to share information regarding positive cases at Mountain View. There is also a COVID Dashboard on the Marana Unified School District website.

Below is some valuable information regarding our ParentVUE app. We reference this often as this app will allow you to see your child's grades.

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

I hope you all enjoyed the extended weekend and your children were excited to get back online this morning for school. An important reminder, next week, January 25th, we will return to our Hybrid Learning Model. We have attached the schedule for the remainder of this week as well as the Hybrid schedule we will resume next Monday.

I also want to thank those of you that were able to complete the parent survey for Cognia. Our accreditation visit is the first week of March and this information will help both the engagement review team as well as our school leadership team. If you have not completed the survey as of yet, please take a few minutes to complete it this week.

Have a great week. Thank you for supporting Mountain View.

During the Remote Learning Model:

  • Students will be expected to use Google Classroom for their course materials. Zoom links will be provided on the Classroom page. Expect to Zoom for up to 25 minutes per class period, daily.
  • Student attendance is marked based on their attendance in Zoom and/or engagement in the daily work.
    • Teachers will enter attendance daily.
    • Students are expected to engage in the Zoom and assignments daily to meet attendance requirements. An absence indicates to a parent that the student is not engaging with the class at the expected time.
    • Students who do not log in to Zoom and who do not complete work during the class period should be marked absent by the teacher.

High School Athletics Update:

Last week the Arizona Interscholastic Association Executive Board reversed their decision to cancel all high school winter sports. As a result, MUSD winter sports practices will be reinstated.

Spring sports are scheduled to start March 1, 2021. However, the AIA Executive Board indicated that this "will be dependent on statewide metrics improving."

We continue to be proud of the members of our athletics programs and look forward to supporting them this season.

Covid Email Notification

January 19, 2021

Hello,

The health and well-being of our staff and students is a top priority. I would like to take this opportunity to share newly identified health information.

  • We have one case of COVID-19 in a staff member at Mountain View High School identified on 1/16. Contact tracing was conducted and there were multiple exposures. Exposed individuals have been notified. Impacted areas have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Principal

ATTENTION Parents of Juniors

Mountain View High School Juniors and Parent(s),

This spring, each high school in MUSD (MHS, MVHS, and MCAT) is planning to offer the ACT exam for juniors who are interested in attending a university or college after high school. If your son or daughter is planning to apply and attend a university or college, please read this letter carefully as it will outline the specifics of this opportunity so you can make an informed choice as to whether your son or daughter should participate.

This March, Mountain View will be providing an opportunity for our JUNIORS to take the ACT. The ACT exam is a national assessment used by many four-year colleges and universities for admission, and MUSD is providing this opportunity at no cost to you. The test will measure your student's skill levels as they prepare for their next steps after high school. The test itself is a multiple-choice exam that assesses a student's math, reading, English, and science comprehension and takes roughly 3 hours. If you would like more information about the ACT, please visit their website at www.act.org and click on "Students and Parents."

Due to the recent events surrounding COVID-19, many colleges, including the three state universities (NAU, ASU, and UA), have gone "Test Optional" or "Test Blind". They are NOT using the ACT as a determining factor for admissions, which may influence your decision to have your son or daughter take the exam. Currently, many of these schools are communicating that they will remain this way for the junior class. See www.fairtest.org to see if your college or university of interest is one of these.

If your son or daughter is interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please have them complete the Google Form linked below (students received an email as well via their student Gmail with this link).  This information will help us adequately prepare for test day procedures.
