To Mountain View Parents and Guardians,
Because we value the importance of communicating with our parents, I want to share the following information with you:
This afternoon, shortly after the start of 4th period, the fire alarm went off. In accordance with our standard emergency response, students and staff evacuated the building. Approximately three minutes after the alarm, it was determined that the alarm was set off accidently due to work being done on the master system. Students and staff returned to class without incident.
During the fire alarm a student shared a false report indicating that there was a shooter on campus. This false report resulted in the immediate response by local law enforcement to campus. Law enforcement first responders, in consultation with school administration, quickly discovered the source of the false report and verified there was no safety concern on campus.
Please know that students have continued their regular school schedule without disruption. The school day will dismiss following regular procedures and timeline.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Pima County Sheriff's Department for their quick response. By working in partnership, students, staff, parents and police can continue to have open communication and secure schools.
I also want to take this opportunity to encourage parents to continue to assist us by discussing with their child the seriousness of making statements of a threatening/dangerous nature at any time including via text messages and on social media sites.
Please do not hesitate to contact school administration if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Todd Garelick
Principal
