English 1: English class update

Hello and happy autumn!  Difficult to believe, but Quarter 1 of the 2018-19 school year has ended.

Grades are posting on Monday, October 15.  As you review them with your student, please keep in mind that although the first quarter grade contributes to the overall semester (credit) grade, there is time to make improvement.  Less-than-satisfactory grades are typically the result of missing or incomplete assignments.  Because they have ample class time to complete their work, the concern is that students may not be using that time wisely (phones, headphones, socializing, tardiness, and general off-task behaviors).  We have been working on addressing these behaviors, but ultimately it is up to the individual student to pay attention during instructions, complete his or her work when assigned, and submit it on time.  I appreciate your assistance in helping to make sure our students are successful.

When we return from fall break, we will read and analyze a short story, and then move onto another novel, Lord of the Flies.  We will continue grammar practice, as well.

I will keep in touch throughout the school year.  As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
