Principal's Message

Good evening Mountain View family,

As a district, we are very proud of our commitment to developing strong school cultures on all our campuses. One of the ways that we are able to commit needed resources to this endeavor is through our School Climate Transformation Grant. Much of the work of this project is done behind the scenes as we identify and implement strategies for students who need additional support in either academic or behavioral areas.

Recently, our school has implemented a universal screening tool that allows us to gather information from all of our teachers and gives us both broad and specific data to guide our decisions. This tool focuses on both external and internal behaviors and allows for a much clearer picture of how we can support our individual students and tailor Summit lessons to most appropriately address our students' needs.

Mountain View staff has also adopted a new program called "Check and Connect" for this school year. This program is based on building strong student-mentor relationships in order to increase success at school. We are incredibly blessed to have such supportive teachers at our school. More than 30% of our staff has volunteered to be Check and Connect mentors. With this level of support we are very eager to see the impact that this program has on our student population. You can be assured as a family that if your child is identified for individual supports your participation is generally optional and we will work with you directly to establish a plan.

Thank you again for you continued support.

Sincerely,

Todd Garelick

Things to Know

Teen Maze – information for parents!

On Tuesday, October 23rd, all students in world history classes will be participating in the Teen Maze program.  Teen Maze is a drug and alcohol prevention program sponsored by the Marana Prevention Alliance.  Students will begin in a staged party scene in the west gym.  From that scene students will get passports which will take them to three different scenario/consequence tables, again in the gym.  Students will be in small groups, meeting with an adult community member representing their respective agency function – for example – the emergency room, a police officer, a treatment program, seeing a judge, meeting with a probation officer.  We offered this program last year and it was both well-done and well-received by students.  If you don't want your student to participate, please contact their world history teacher and an alternate setting will be provided.

Families play the most important role in leading their children choosing healthy lifestyles. For that reason, we would like to invite you to this event. If you would like to come, please check-in at the front office, and then head over to the West Gym. A Mountain View staff member, or one of our Marana community partnership members will give you a tour.

Date: Tuesday October 23, 2018
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: West Gym

Special Presentation – Teaching Fellows

Looking for a New Purpose? Career? Recently Retired? Marana Unified School District is looking for energetic people interested in becoming a teacher in our District. If you have a student-centered philosophy and want to inspire, motivate, and make a difference in students' lives, then this is the career for you!

Marana and the University of Arizona have partnered to create a unique opportunity, through the Teaching Fellows Program, to support you in reaching this goal!

Representatives from the University of Arizona and Marana Unified School District will discuss incentives for becoming a Marana Teaching Fellow on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 5:30pm at Coyote Trail Elementary (Library), 8000 N Silverbell Tucson, AZ 85743.

RSVP to reserve your spot today at (520) 682-4745 (Pizza will be provided) or visit https://www.maranausd.org/teachingfellows to learn more about the program.

From the MVHS Front Office,

All students should have their student ID with them at all times. If your student needs one, they can get one in the Bookstore.

Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Students and Parents - The D-wing gate is now open in the morning, please pull forward to drop off your student. Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus.

With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.

Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area.

Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass.

Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.

A Note from the Attendance Office

When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.

"STUDENT ABSENCES"

In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.

"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"

Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals.
