A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Principal's Message Good evening Mountain View family, As a district, we are very proud of our commitment to developing strong school cultures on all our campuses. One of the ways that we are able to commit needed resources to this endeavor is through our School Climate Transformation Grant. Much of the work of this project is done behind the scenes as we identify and implement strategies for students who need additional support in either academic or behavioral areas. Recently, our school has implemented a universal screening tool that allows us to gather information from all of our teachers and gives us both broad and specific data to guide our decisions. This tool focuses on both external and internal behaviors and allows for a much clearer picture of how we can support our individual students and tailor Summit lessons to most appropriately address our students' needs. Mountain View staff has also adopted a new program called "Check and Connect" for this school year. This program is based on building strong student-mentor relationships in order to increase success at school. We are incredibly blessed to have such supportive teachers at our school. More than 30% of our staff has volunteered to be Check and Connect mentors. With this level of support we are very eager to see the impact that this program has on our student population. You can be assured as a family that if your child is identified for individual supports your participation is generally optional and we will work with you directly to establish a plan. Thank you again for you continued support. Sincerely, Todd Garelick Principal Mountain View High School (520) 579-4427 | | Things to Know Teen Maze – information for parents! On Tuesday, October 23rd, all students in world history classes will be participating in the Teen Maze program. Teen Maze is a drug and alcohol prevention program sponsored by the Marana Prevention Alliance. Students will begin in a staged party scene in the west gym. From that scene students will get passports which will take them to three different scenario/consequence tables, again in the gym. Students will be in small groups, meeting with an adult community member representing their respective agency function – for example – the emergency room, a police officer, a treatment program, seeing a judge, meeting with a probation officer. We offered this program last year and it was both well-done and well-received by students. If you don't want your student to participate, please contact their world history teacher and an alternate setting will be provided.
Families play the most important role in leading their children choosing healthy lifestyles. For that reason, we would like to invite you to this event. If you would like to come, please check-in at the front office, and then head over to the West Gym. A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Principal's Message Good evening Mountain View family, Welcome back from Fall Break. As we transition into the second quarter of the school year we want to remind everyone to keep an eye on ParentVue and monitor your child's grades. As partners we can work together and help to ensure a positive first semester. I wanted to share a message we received from Pima County and the transportation department. According to PCDOT, we will begin facing major disruptions in our traffic flow between Hardy, Overton and Linda Vista along Thornydale. This will begin near October 22nd and is scheduled to be completed on or near November 16th. I do understand the issues this has and will continue to create for our families and we have been working with Pima County to try to minimize these impacts. Unfortunately we are tied to their construction schedule and have limited opportunities to adjust our traffic pattern. Our administrative team both at Mountain View and from the district have met with PCDOT on multiple occasions as we need to improve our parking lot and drop-off. however, until their project is complete we are at a stalemate. We do thank you for your patience and understanding. We hope this will be improved next semester. Just before our break, Mountain View lost two members of our family. Patty Lynn, a long-time monitor and substitute, and her husband Warren, our former auto teacher and baseball coach, lost their lives in a car accident. This was a very difficult time for many of our staff as both of these individuals were loved and valued by our entire school. We will remember both Warren and Patty and be grateful for the impact each had on our school and our community. Have a great first week back.
