The Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) will hold workshops to
discuss a draft Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Strategy (Draft
Strategy), which was recently released for public comment. The
meetings are open to the public and full participation by all
parties is encouraged. Locations and dates of the workshops are:
Sacramento: October 13, 2015
Diamond Bar: October 14, 2015
Fresno: October 19, 2015
Additional workshop details are included in the notice that is
posted here: http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/shortlived/2015notice.pdf
The Draft Strategy can be found on ARB's Short-Lived Climate
Pollutant website at:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/shortlived/shortlived.htm
The website also contains a link for submitting written comments
on the Draft Strategy. Comments received on the Draft Strategy
will inform the development of a Proposed Strategy, which will be
presented to the Board in late 2015.
An agenda and presentation will be posted before the workshops.
Background
Short-lived climate pollutants are powerful climate forcers that
remain in the atmosphere for a much shorter period of time than
major climate pollutants such as carbon dioxide. Their relative
potency in terms of how they heat the atmosphere can be tens to
thousands of times greater than CO2. Short-lived climate
pollutants include methane, black carbon, and fluorinated gases.
The impacts of short-lived climate pollutants are especially
strong within the near term. Reducing these emissions can have
an immediate beneficial impact on climate change. Senate Bill
605 (Lara, Chapter 523, Statutes of 2014) requires ARB, in
coordination with other State agencies and local air districts,
to develop a strategy by the end of 2015, to further reduce
short-lived climate pollutant emissions in California.
California is in a drought emergency.
