Good evening Mountain Lion families,

We are hopeful that the first three days of school last week went well for you and your family and this week is off to a great start. Although we have been teaching remotely, the teachers have been so excited seeing their students. The first few days of a new school year are never easy but between the hard work from our staff and the commitment from our students we were able to create the best learning opportunity available, for now.

I again attached the student remote learning plan as well as our remote learning schedule as a reference for you.

Protecting Zoom Classrooms

Given the open availability of our Google Classroom Codes, we have set rules for entry.  Only students using screen names (shortened first names are fine) that match those on our Synergy, class period roster will be admitted to the Zoom meeting.  This, in conjunction with our Video On expectation, will enable us to deter unenrolled students from entering the classroom. If you have questions regarding the expectations for participation you may contact your students counselor or administration.

Textbook and Materials Distribution: Between August 13-August 18 , MVHS will be providing a drive-through distribution of required textbooks and physical materials. Please note that many of our courses have made all their materials available online to support our remote learning environment. If your student(s) is enrolled in a course that requires the pickup of physical materials their teacher will be sharing a Sign Up Genius link in their Google classroom and this link is also included below. Please communicate with your student prior to signing up for a time slot to confirm if they need to participate in this distribution.  Students should only sign up for one time slot to receive materials for all their courses. If siblings would like to share a slot please make sure that all names are included in the sign up. As a drive-through distribution, we are asking that families enter our service drive through the Linda Vista entrance and continue through the Thornydale gate to exit. Materials will be distributed directly to the car from our curbside location in front of the auditorium.

Scheduled distribution dates and times:

August 13: 7:00 am-7:00 pm

August 14: 7:00 am -3:00 pm

August 17: 7:00 am-7:00 pm

August 18: 7:00 am -3:00 pm

If you have any questions, or need to make alternative arrangements, please contact Delia McCraley at d.m.mccraley@maranausd.org.

Check your email or ParentVue account today to see your child's learning review for the week. This should help your family organize your week. Thank you again for your help at this time and support of our school. Remote Learning is our current normal and let's all make the best of this situation in hopes that we can again, at some point, return to Mountain View and learn together.

Have a great week.

Things to Know

From the MVHS Front Office,

School Meals To Go

Students may stop by a school or along a bus route, Monday – Friday, to receive a hot lunch and a breakfast meal to go for the following morning. Students DO NOT need to be present to take a meal. Student/parent/guardian may pick up meals for all eligible students in their household.

To view details and a list of locations and times, please visit our School Meals To Go webpage at www.maranausd.org/schoolmealstogo.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Arizona Department of Education regulate the District's food service program. Regulations prohibit the District to continue to offer our Grab & Go free meal program beyond August 4. Beginning August 5, the District is required to charge meals to the student's meal account according to the student's Free/Reduced or Paid eligibility.

Protecting Zoom Classrooms

Given the open availability of our Google Classroom Codes, we have set rules for entry.  We have asked teachers to limit classroom entry to only students who are on their class list.  We do however recognize that some of our students for a variety of reasons go by nicknames or other selected names.  If a student is more comfortable with the nickname or selected name, we want them to use that name.  We recommend that students in this situation, email their teacher to let the teacher know the preferred screen name.  By receiving this email, the teacher will be able to officially connect the nickname/selected name to the student on the roster

Zoom Video On/Off Feature

At Mountain View, we believe it is important for students to join Zoom classes and meetings using the Video On feature.  Talking face to face with others helps to build connectedness and community.  Many times, it is that hint of a confused or anxious look that keys a teacher into the need to repeat a direction or to provide clarifying information.  Similarly, seeing students nod or smile lets teachers know that they are connecting with students.  Finally, when students work together, seeing each other, supports the work efforts and builds team relationships.

The expectation at Mountain View is that students will consistently use the Video On feature.  That being said, we recognize that for a variety of reasons a student or family may prefer that the student use the Video Off feature consistently or occasionally.  If a family prefers that the video feature be turned off, the family should contact their student's teachers so that the teacher is aware of the exception.
