Good evening Mountain Lion families,
I hope everyone is staying safe and has been able to make the most of their time away from school. In so many ways, this remains a surreal time. As a parent, it has been a blessing having the opportunity to spend so much time with my family. In most of our lives, we are so busy that we sometimes don't take enough time to slow down and enjoy what we have. These past few weeks have certainly allowed me and my family to do that. We have been using FaceTime to connect with family members in other states and have "played" board games with my parents in Colorado. In a very challenging time we have been able to make the most of it and spend quality time together.
As you read last Friday, we are heading into the next phase of our Learning at Home plan. Performance Tasks will be shared by our teachers and are defined as any learning activity or assessment that asks students to perform and/or demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and proficiency. These tasks yield a tangible product and/or performance that serve as evidence of learning. Unlike a selected-response item (e.g., multiple-choice or matching) that asks students to select from given alternatives, a performance task presents a situation that calls for learners to apply their learning in context. We highly encourage our students to complete the Performance Tasks.
Additionally, teachers will document fourth quarter assignments (not for a grade) in ParentVue (MUSD Connection) to show evidence of ongoing standards mastery. Although teachers will not issue fourth quarter grades, they will issue semester grades and award academic credit for high school courses. Grades are suspended and the grade a student has from the third quarter will not decline but may be improved.
Again, we hope you are safe and we look forward to seeing everyone again at Mountain View as soon as we are able to do so.
Take care and be well.
