Good evening Mountain Lion family,

Today, we begin opening up our Performance Tasks to our Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors. As we shared in prior messages, this will be an activity that encompasses multiple standards and will provide students with differing methods to demonstrate their acquisition of knowledge. All year long we have spoken about student engagement and we hope that this activity excites and engages our students.

Yearbooks will be distributed once they arrive on campus. If you did not yet purchase a yearbook you can use this link to buy a copy: https://az-marana.intouchreceipting.com

A quick reminder, as well, that we have been turning the lights on in our stadium each night at 8:20 p.m. (20:20) and leaving them on for 20 minutes to honor the graduating class. When the lights go off at 8:40 p.m. our PowerCat lights up on the tower in the middle of campus. The PowerCat remains lit until 10 p.m.

And, as has been shared a few times, we have placed an order for yard signs for our Class of 2020. Once the yard signs have been delivered to campus, the administrative team, teachers and staff will be canvassing our community and placing the signs in the yard of each of the members of the Class of 2020. We were able to secure one yard sign per graduate. Should you want or need more we can provide information for ordering. We are hoping for the signs to be delivered to Mountain View on May 8th.

Please know that we are well aware that none of these acts will replace graduation for our senior class. We continue to search for ways to celebrate and honor the Class of 2020 and will do so until we are able to have a ceremony, in person. We truly want to celebrate these amazing students. However, we do have some VERY EXCITING NEWS for our CLASS OF 2020!!!! This week we will send out a "Signup Genius" for our seniors to sign up for a 5 minute time slot and be celebrated!! Our seniors will come to the auditorium at Mountain View for their chosen time slot and we will collect their Chromebooks, hand them their diploma and then walk them to the stage for photographs. Once you complete your photographs with your family we ask that you depart campus and allow for the next senior to arrive. We are very excited to share this moment with you and your family.

Our District and school are proud to announce another way we plan to pay tribute to our Class of 2020!

With this said, we have a request for each of our senior families…. will you please send us a picture of your senior?

While we are unable to conduct a graduation ceremony, in person, at this time, we continue our commitment to celebrate and recognize our seniors through a special Mountain View High School Tribute to the Class of 2020 video! The video will be released on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 5:00pm.

Please follow the steps outlined below:

  • The photo can be a senior picture or a picture in cap and gown. No selfies. Only appropriate images will be included in the video.
  • Upload the photo at https://magmod.typeform.com/to/hztF9W
  • The deadline to submit photo is Friday, May 1, 2020.

By submitting photo, the parent/guardian agrees to have their student's name and photo included in the video that will be released in May on the District's YouTube channel and shared via email, on the District's and school's social media channels including Facebook and Twitter, and on the District and school's Websites.

As of today, we have 64 of our seniors photos submitted.

Thank you for your attention to this. We look forward to sharing this special video and to celebrating together as soon as able.

Student check in

Hello,
This is Mr. Allen, your student's summit teacher and case manager. I hope everyone is doing well.  I just wanted to check in and share a few pieces of information.

On Monday, most if not all teachers will be sharing a "performance task" with your students. This is meant to be a slightly more involved task used to assess the knowledge that was learned during the Spring semester. If your student has any questions on performance tasks they should email that respective teacher or myself.

I am available to meet via Zoom for any parent or student that has questions or concerns about anything (academic or non-academic) moving forward. Just email me or have your student email me if you want to schedule one of these meetings at any time.

In general I just want you to feel that I am accessible and here to help. Please reach out if you need anything at all.

Stay safe and take care,
Mr. Allen

Good evening Mountain Lion family,

As we remain under our "stay at home" orders we are also transitioning our "learning at home" towards Performance Task mastery. Our teachers have been working very hard to identify these tasks and support your child during this difficult time. We will begin rolling out these Performance Tasks this week for our seniors and next week for our other students. Please keep working with your child to support their completion of the tasks and their current courses of study.

We have been working very closely with our Senior Staff and had extensive conversations about how we can support the Class of 2020. We are very excited to announce that we will be working with Jostens on the delivery of our seniors caps and gowns. Those will be delivered to Mountain View on Friday, April 24th, between 8 a.m. and noon. Jostens will be handling the distribution of the caps and gowns near the front office. A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens

Good evening Mountain Lion families,

I hope everyone is staying safe and has been able to make the most of their time away from school. In so many ways, this remains a surreal time. As a parent, it has been a blessing having the opportunity to spend so much time with my family. In most of our lives, we are so busy that we sometimes don't take enough time to slow down and enjoy what we have. These past few weeks have certainly allowed me and my family to do that. We have been using FaceTime to connect with family members in other states and have "played" board games with my parents in Colorado. In a very challenging time we have been able to make the most of it and spend quality time together.

As you read last Friday, we are heading into the next phase of our Learning at Home plan. Performance Tasks will be shared by our teachers and are defined as any learning activity or assessment that asks students to perform and/or demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and proficiency. These tasks yield a tangible product and/or performance that serve as evidence of learning. Unlike a selected-response item (e.g., multiple-choice or matching) that asks students to select from given alternatives, a performance task presents a situation that calls for learners to apply their learning in context. We highly encourage our students to complete the Performance Tasks.

Additionally, teachers will document fourth quarter assignments (not for a grade) in ParentVue (MUSD Connection) to show evidence of ongoing standards mastery. Although teachers will not issue fourth quarter grades, they will issue semester grades and award academic credit for high school courses. Grades are suspended and the grade a student has from the third quarter will not decline but may be improved.

Again, we hope you are safe and we look forward to seeing everyone again at Mountain View as soon as we are able to do so.

Take care and be well.
