MUSD Update: Preparing to Return to School

District Update

October 16, 2020

Hello MUSD Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds you well as we wind down fall break and prepare to begin a hybrid model of education on Monday. Though many of us were hoping that students could return to in-person instruction immediately, we welcome even a partial return to school. There are numerous benefits to starting this transition using a hybrid model.

  • First, it puts students back on campus. Having students learn and interact remotely was a temporary situation, and we know how difficult it has been on students, families, teachers and staff members. We welcome bringing our students back to school where they can interact with others, have access to school resources and re-establish a school routine.
  • Our return to school also allows students to develop face-to-face relationships with peers and their teachers. Communicating behind a screen is all too common. This shift will bring students back into class where they can communicate in-person and further develop strong relationships and communication skills with others.
  • Finally, a hybrid model allows our schools to work through their mitigation plans, identifying areas that work well or may need adjusting. Again, this situation is not ideal, but it allows students to return to school safely during this pandemic.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue to communicate with you regularly. As we have witnessed at numerous school districts around the state, we do anticipate having confirmed COVID cases in students and staff. We are committed to maintaining transparency with families and MUSD staff while protecting the personal health information of the individual diagnosed with COVID. Upon confirmation of a positive COVID case (staff or student), we will:

  • Conduct contact tracing and notify individuals who have been potentially exposed.
  • Work with the Pima County Health Department to accurately report cases.
  • Notify impacted site or department staff via email.
  • Notify families at the impacted school via email/phone calls.
  • Notify all MUSD staff via email.

As we begin our second quarter of school, I encourage you to stay connected with us and communicate if you have concerns or feedback. I look forward to seeing your student in class again.

Sincerely,

Daniel Streeter, Ed.D.
MUSD Administration
