Important Update on Returning to School

MUSD Letterhead

October 2, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to take this opportunity to provide you with an update from last night's Governing Board meeting. Based on the current health metrics and guidance from health professionals, the Governing Board voted 3-1 to start in-person learning in a hybrid model starting October 19th.  The Board committed to reviewing the health metrics at the next Governing Board meeting, currently scheduled for October 22nd.

This email will provide you with some information regarding the hybrid model that will be implemented in MUSD. The purpose of a hybrid model of instruction is to reduce the number of students who are physically on campus and in learning spaces to limit the number of individuals each student and staff member is exposed to each day.

Students who opt for the classroom learning model will be divided into two cohorts (A and B) by student last name. Cohort A will consist of students with last names starting with the letters A-L and cohort B will consist of students with last names starting with the letters M-Z.  However, families whose students have different last names will be able to attend school on the same day.  Please contact your students' principal(s) if you need to make this request.  When students are not on campus, they will participate in remote learning activities (collaborative zooms, flipped learning, and teacher support).

All schools will have a shortened day for in-person students, using the Friday transportation schedule. Students will be engaged in instructional activities during regular school hours. This allows time for teachers to connect with various groups of students participating remotely.

Here is how students in each learning model will be impacted by a hybrid schedule for each type of schooling:

middle, elementary and MCAT schedule

Marana HS and Mountain View HS hybrid schedule

Families with students enrolled in specialized programs (PAL, Program Inspire, Program ABLE) will receive program-specific information next week. Additional information regarding the instructional models' hybrid schedule that will be implemented in MUSD after Fall Break can be found here:

MUSD Hybrid Model Information

Over the next week, you will be receiving information from your student's school as the details of the school's schedule and mitigation plans are finalized.  Students who have been attending onsite services will be able to continue on the days they are not with their teachers in classroom learning.

We are grateful that the Governing Board has provided us the initial direction that we needed heading into Fall Break. Please visit our website for more information on our Safe and Thoughtful Return to School Plan. Additionally, please feel free to reach out to your child's school with any questions that you may have. We look forward to supporting you and your student(s) as we work together to return to school safely and effectively.

Thank you,

MUSD Administration
