A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Good evening Mountain View families, We are back for our second week of hybrid instruction. As I shared last Monday, it was great having students on campus last week. With our school returning in the hybrid instructional model, we were better able to see our mitigation plan in practice and identify any issues or concerns with smaller groups. This transition to hybrid also allowed our teachers to work with smaller groups in-person and work through some of the challenges that come with teaching synchronously. We do appreciate your patience as our teachers were not trained in this teaching style but did an amazing job last week – our first week in seven months of in-person learning. Each week we will encounter more challenges as well. The letter I shared Friday, along with the voicemail that you received, detailed one of the challenges we faced late in the week. We are working very hard to keep you informed and maintain clear and open communication. Have a great week and enjoy the changing temperatures. We all earned the right to enjoy this as we made it through one of the hottest (and most dry) summers on record. A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Good evening Mountain View family, This was a very special day at Mountain View. For the first time since March, we were able to welcome our students back to campus. It felt great seeing our students walking around campus, talking to each other, learning in front of our teachers and getting back to normal. We want to commend the students for following the mitigation plan and working with our staff to ensure that our safety protocol measures were being followed. I especially want to recognize our incredible teachers as well. Today was a huge challenge for them and they did an incredible job. As one said earlier this morning, they felt like they were performing a juggling act – some kids in the classroom and many kids on a Zoom – but they performed admirably. One thing students may find different when they return is that the District is allowing teachers to bring their own child(ren) to their classroom on days when their child(ren) are scheduled to be remote learners. This was an accommodation that was examined extensively. As we are committed to balancing the needs of families in the District, we are equally committed to the needs of MUSD teachers in their role as parents. Making this accommodation for our teachers will minimize their need to take personal time for their own childcare needs. We will continue to work through the challenges presented to our teachers, staff, students and parents but I do know that we can do this successfully if we work together. Have a great week and keep Mountain View in your thoughts.
