Principal's Message

Good evening Mountain View family,

We hope you all had a restful and relaxing Labor Day holiday. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to hike the Fossil Springs trail this weekend. This was the most rewarding hike I have taken and though it was 11.5 miles roundtrip the beauty at the bottom was well worth the trip. Incredibly, the weather held off until we were mere yards from our vehicle when lightning crashed next to our truck. Sometimes we take our great state for granted but there are so many amazing places to visit within Arizona.

We are heading into our midterm grading period for the first quarter. Each teacher should be connecting with their students on the specific needs they have and how to navigate through Synergy to understand their grades and what can be done to fix their grades. We urge each of you to also look at your ParentVue and help us with these conversations. Our hope is that there are no surprises with regards to grades but if you have questions please reach out to your child's teachers.

Last week I shared a video on grit. This weekend, someone shared the following quote with me: "Remember that failure is an event, not a person." – Zig Ziglar. I think that should resonate with all of us. As I shared at the beginning of the school year we want our students to fail when they are at Mountain View – not fail in terms of their grades – but fail in the sense of make mistakes and learn from them; fail while trying something new; raise your expectations and fail trying to reach that bar. If your students can learn to fail now and overcome the obstacles they face while here they will be more prepared for their post-high school careers. We all strive for success but sometimes need to fall down to reach further. So, we all need to remind our kids that failure is an option and we will grow from it each time it happens to us.

Have a great week.

Things to Know

From the MVHS Front Office,

All students should have their student ID with them at all times. If your student needs one, they can get one in the Bookstore.

Office Hours for Mountain View are 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Students - please enter campus through the Main Gate at the service drive.  Students without a Zero Hour will be allowed on campus at 8:00 AM. Students arriving late after last bell will need to go to the front office to enter campus.

With our increased security measures, students being picked up early need to enter the office near the library rather than the back office doors.

Please do not park in the first 10 stops in front of the JTED building. Those are reserved for the preschool. Also, please do not make any U-turns in that area.

Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that any ill student that needs to go home must report to the health office before calling a parent. They can call their parent from the office.
We will not send passes up if parent arrives before the student reports to the health office.
Student may ask their teacher for a health office pass.

Parents, if your child is ill and you call them out as such, please keep them home. This will keep the germs from spreading.

Chromebook Insurance

There is still time to purchase Chromebook Insurance. If interested, please contact Mrs. Ketchum in the Bookstore to purchase insurance. The cost is $30.00. Chromebook Insurance covers accidental damage to the device for the initial occurrence.  Insurance does not, however, cover the replacement of a device charger.  Insurance is not required, but it can provide peace of mind.

A Note from the Attendance Office

When a student's absence or late arrival may be excused, the parent/guardian should communicate with the Attendance Office so that the absence or late arrival will be appropriately recorded.

"STUDENT ABSENCES"

In order to request that an absence be excused, the parent/guardian must call and leave a message on the Attendance Line within 24 hours of the absence. The Attendance Line voicemail is available 24/7 at 520-579-4444. If a "request to excuse" message is not received, the attendance clerks will attempt to contact the parent/guardian so they may properly record the student's absence(s). If no response is received from the parent/guardian the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.

"STUDENT LATE ARRIVALS"

Unless excused, a student's late arrival(s) are recorded as "Unexcused Tardy/Late". If a parent/guardian would like to request that the late arrival(s) be excused, the parent/guardian must either come into the school with the student and provide the late excuse to the Front Office staff, or call the Attendance Line voicemail at 520-579-4444 and leave a "request to excuse" message for the late arrival. Please note: the Attendance Office does not contact parents/guardians regarding late arrivals.

College, Career, Counseling

MVHS Parents/Guardians and Students,

MVHS counselors and the College and Career Center, will be meeting with all of our freshmen students during the weeks of August 27th & September 3rd through their English classes. We are excited to get to know them better and introduce them to some important places and people on campus.

We encourage all MVHS students to get to know their counselor as soon as possible. The more we know about them and their future plans or any concerns they may have, the better we can help. If your student would like to make an appointment with their counselor, please have them see Ms. Sims in counseling.
