Principal Message

Hello Falcon Families.

I hope you are having a nice week.  We have had a productive week at MMS.  The kids did a great job at focusing and giving their best effort for the AIMS and AzMerit Writing assessment.

We continue with our testing schedule for the next two weeks.  Please congratulate your child for being committed to always trying their hardest and representing our school and community so well.

Have a wonderful weekend.

AIMS and AzMerit Testing:

Next week, we will continue our testing schedule.

Just a reminder, for all of the AzMerit tests, students will take the test with their Language Arts or Math teacher depending on the test being administered. On testing days, we will be following a modified block schedule so students have plenty of time to take the test. Any student who needs additional time beyond the school day, may stay after school and take the activity bus home if they would like.  That schedule is attached for each testing day.

One of the things we tell our students, is to always do their very best in everything they do.  That includes, the day-to-day classroom work, performing in the fine arts, working hard on the athletic fields, and also, taking assessments.

We hope you will encourage your child to take their time and do their best on the test.  They have worked hard with their studies all year, and it is now time to demonstrate that their hard work has paid off!

Athletics

Hi Falcon Athlete Families! This past week we kicked off our season with our first MMS scrimmages. Schedules, parent letters, and picture forms have been handed out to all athletes. If you have not received these items, please have your athlete check with their coach. Because we have so many teams, it is important that your athlete listen to their coaches, follow the schedule, and communicate with you about game times and places. Please note that team and individual pictures will be taken Monday and Tuesday (April 9th and 10th). Your team's assigned date for pictures is on their schedule. If you have questions, contact your coach or Sue Miller at s.z.miller@maranausd.org or at 682-4724. Go Falcons!

8th Grade Promotion

Many parents have been asking about 8th grade promotion.  We know that some need to request days off of work and travel plans need to be made.  Even though the exact times have not quite been solidified, I did want you to have the date.  Our promotion ceremony will be May 23rd…right around the corner!

University of Arizona Leadership Summit

We are excited to invite all student-athletes (6-8 grade) and their parents to a special leadership event put on by The University of Arizona Athletic Department. The PAL (Peer Athletic Leaders) Leadership Summit is a FREE event for young athletes to learn hands on leadership skills from current student-athletes. Parents are encouraged to come and meet in small groups with representatives from the Early Academic Outreach to learn how to best support and encourage their young student-athletes to pursue higher education.

The event is Sunday, April 22nd from 1-4pm in the Jim Click Hall of Champions. See the attached flyer for registration information

Counseling Corner

Remember, we have counselors to assist students with their social / emotional needs. If you notice that your child seems stressed, angry, or sad, please reach out to our counselors so that we can offer support.

PBIS: Positive Behavior Intervention Support

At MMS, we have high expectation for student behavior!

Every day we tell students that we expect them to show RESPECT, take RESPONSIBILITY for their words and actions, and to have PRIDE in all they do and say.

When students meet our expectations, we strive to recognize them. Sometimes that means we give them a Falcon Ticket to let them know we appreciate their behavior.  Students can then place their Falcon Ticket in a prize box for a chance to win one of four great prizes.  This month's prizes include: a $25 Amazon gift card, a $25 Bass Pro Shops gift card, a 32 oz. Hydroflask, and a $25 American Eagle Outfitters gift card.

Marana Middle School will provide an experience that fosters life-long academic and personal growth in a world-class education environment. Faculty and staff will collaborate with families, students and the community to develop strong, caring and productive leaders.
