Background
California's freight transportation system is a multi-modal
system designed to move freight across the State, the nation, and
the globe. The freight system is a critical part of our economy
and a significant contributor to our air quality concerns. The
collective efforts of impacted communities, the logistics
industry, air quality agencies, and the ports have yielded
significant progress in reducing the air pollution impacts from
the movement of freight or goods.
On January 23, 2014, the Board adopted resolution 14-2, which
directed staff to engage all interested stakeholders to provide
input on the development of a Strategy document by the end of
2014. The purpose of the Strategy is to identify and prioritize
actions that move California towards a sustainable freight
transport system that is characterized by improved efficiency and
zero or near-zero emissions.
