Mask Update from MUSD

Mask Update

May 27, 2021

The Marana Unified School District Governing Board unanimously approved a change to the District's current Mitigation Plan. Per this change, face coverings will be optional for all MUSD employees and students. This change is effective immediately and will be in place for summer programs and moving forward into the 2021-22 school year. The District will continue to maintain mitigation strategies, including physical distancing when possible, regular cleaning and disinfecting, and other precautionary measures. The administration does recommend the continued use of face coverings for unvaccinated individuals when physical distancing is not possible.

We thank our MUSD teachers, staff, and students for their patience and perseverance during this challenging year.

Covid Email Notification

May 18, 2021

Hello,

The health and well-being of our staff and students is a top priority. I would like to take this opportunity to share newly identified health information.

We have one case of COVID-19 in a student at Mountain View High School identified on 5/18. Contact tracing was conducted and there were minimal exposures. Impacted areas have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

We are choosing to send this notification to inform you whenever there is a confirmed positive case in the school in an effort to keep our families and staff informed. Exposure is defined as being within six feet of the sick person for more than 15 minutes while the person was infectious beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or the test date if asymptomatic. Regardless of the outcome of exposures, any individual who was exposed will be asked to quarantine for at least 14 days or follow the acceptable options to shorten quarantine outlined here.

Visit MUSD's COVID-19 Resource and Communications Center to access links and information related to support services, mitigation plans, meal options and more. MUSD also maintains a COVID-19 Dashboard, which is a live, real-time tracking system of active and resolved cases giving you a snapshot of COVID-19 at MUSD. The Dashboard is refreshed every five minutes, so data will change as it is entered.

MUSD continues to follow the public health safety guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Pima County Health Department. Our schools practice enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, social distancing, hand washing, limiting visitors to campus and the requirement of a face covering. We are taking the necessary steps to protect the health of students and staff, which is our number one priority.

Learn more about MUSD's student illness protocol for COVID-19. MUSD staff can find COVID-19 employee illness protocol here.

If you have further questions about this notice, please contact Mountain View High School Health Services at 520.579.4400.

Sincerely,

Todd Garelick
Principal

Message sent from Marana Unified School District

Happy Tuesday,

Thank you for all your support during this difficult school year. Despite all of the challenges and schedule changes, I have seen my students rise to the challenge and do what no former students have ever had to accomplish before. I hope they all realize how resilient they are, and that they have time to rest before they begin their senior year of high school.

Grades are currently updated with the final essay and any missing assignments that have recently been turned in. Please encourage your student to check their American Literature grade to make sure that it is accurate.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you again!

Good Evening Mountain Lion family,

We have reached the last week of the 2020-2021 school year. If ever there was a good time to sit back, relax, and reflect on the year this would be a great time to do so. So many people shared over the last fourteen months that they were excited for the year 2020 to end. I think we all would be more excited to bring a close to this school year and refocus on the next school year. There were some great things that happened since spring of last year and there were also incredible challenges. We have lived through remote learning, hybrid learning, cohorts and a return to school. And, most importantly, we have made it. This week we will celebrate the Class of 2021 and honor them for all of their accomplishments and also watch the transition for our other students at Mountain View as they move closer to their own graduation. That reminds me of a movie quote that seems apropos at this time, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." - Ferris Bueller

We again want to honor Pamela Galindo, Class of 2021, who has been named valedictorian of her graduating class. She was recently featured in an article published by Tucson Local Media, where she reflected on attending school during the pandemic and shared her plans for attending the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities to study mortuary science. Read the article

And, don't forget, the Marana Cares Mobile, Mobile Meals and Services Traveling to Children, will be on the streets again during the Marana Unified School District 2021 Summer Break Monday-Friday, May 24 - July 23, 2021 serving FREE, nutritious and delicious meals to ALL children.  No meal service will be provided on May 31st or July 5, 2021 (in observance of July 4th holiday).
