A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Good evening Mountain Lion family, There is a lot of excitement on campus as we move toward the end of the semester and deep into our end of year activities. This time of year is very busy on a high school campus. A few of our favorite events include our senior class and this year is no different. On May 7th, our Class of 2021 will be again be participating in our Grad Walk. For this event we load our seniors onto school buses and visit our feeder elementary schools as well as Dove Mountain and Tortolita. It is a special moment for our seniors to thank their teachers and for them to be mentors to our future Mountain Lions. May 18th is our Mountain View Graduation ceremony. Although it has been a very difficult 14 months our seniors have done great and are close to walking across the stage and being recognized for their accomplishments. Congratulations Class of 2021. For senior parents, we sent two surveys to your child last week. The first survey is to let us know if your student will be participating in the in-person graduation or the alternate graduation on May 19th and 20th. The second survey is for our seniors to identify which teachers they would like to read names at graduation. Please check to make sure they completed both surveys. Mountain View High School is one of only 232 schools nationwide to earn the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women's access to AP Computer Science A for the 2019-2020 school year! | Message sent from Marana Unified School District | | Good afternoon- I just wanted to clarify some information about the Arizona Science Test. If your student was on campus last week, they should've had the opportunity to participate in the science test in my classroom. If your student is learning remotely, there is an opportunity for them to take the Arizona Science test on campus tomorrow in the library. Because there is only room for 40 students to participate, there was a sign up. If your student signed up, then I will see them tomorrow morning in the library at 8:20am. The test is scheduled from 8:20am - 12:30pm. From experience, it doesn't take the full time to complete. If your student did not sign up, please do not send them to campus to take the test. I apologize that I did not communicate this with you earlier. Please let me know what questions you have. Amanda Forte
We are thrilled to be hosting a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2021. As was shared in communications from Mr. Garelick, we will be following several strict mitigation protocols to ensure the safety of our entire community: * All seniors will be limited to 4 guests and will receive 4 tickets at the mandatory graduation practice on May 14th at 9AM. * Guests will be asked to distance while in the stands * MUSD requires face coverings while on any MUSD campus In order to prepare for our ceremony, we are asking that you complete this survey indicating if you plan to attend our in-person Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, May 18th. For those families that choose not to attend our Graduation Ceremony, we will be hosting an event in our Little Theater for graduates and their families to take photos on Wednesday, May 19th and Thursday, May 20th. | | Face Covering Requirement | | | | MUSD Families, Today, Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services rescinded orders that direct K-12 schools to require masks. It is important to note that the Governor's press release states that K-12 school districts still maintain the right to institute and enforce policies to mitigate against COVID-19 spread, including the use of masks. MUSD will continue to follow all mitigation strategies currently set in place, and the use of face coverings is a top mitigation strategy for safe in-person learning. Per MUSD policy, face coverings must be worn on all MUSD school campuses and district offices, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors. - Marana Unified School District Administration

A Community of Empowered, Innovative and Engaged Citizens | | | Good evening Mountain Lion family, This semester is moving extremely fast and next week is our last academic checkpoint. As you start planning the end of the semester and school year, our final exams will be the week of May 17th and we are holding our graduation ceremony for the Class of 2021 on Tuesday, May 18th, at Mountain View. Our administrative team, along with our instructional leadership team, are busy planning for next year. We are adopting the vision that Mountain View High School believes strongly in a Culture of Universal Achievement. Our goals for next year, as discussed in last week's Mountain Lion Monday, follow this line of thinking. Our No Opt-out intervention, as well as the incredible work being done in the classrooms that support student engagement, all support this as well. And, as we strive to become a nationally recognized school we believe strongly that are grading policy and assessment work will help push us to meet our goals. We are excited about this journey. Great news! Two of our Mountain Lion students were awarded 2021 Arizona Rising Star for the Aspirations in Computing an NCWIT Program. Rachel Pixley grade 10 and Audrey Brumfield grade 11 both received the Rising Star Award. Congratulations to both girls. This year 6 MV students participated in the FBLA Arizona State Virtual Conference. Rachel Pixley placed 3rd in the State in Intro to Information Technology and will compete in Nationals. The following students placed in the top 10 in the state and may qualify for Nationals: Audrey Brumfield - Word processing Marrek Parker - Intro to IT Maxwell Alexander - Intro to IT Elizabeth Iiams - International Business Rachel Pixley - Computer Problem Solving and Intro to IT Just a reminder, that this week we continue our Spring State Assessments. We will be running a different bell schedule so that our students who are testing have every opportunity to perform their best. All sophomores will begin their ELA AzM2 with their English teachers, while all juniors will take their SciAIMS with their science teachers later in the week. Please note our schedule for the week(attached). Students who are not testing will benefit from having longer access to their teachers and content. For sophomores and juniors learning remotely: Sophomores and juniors who will be learning remotely will not test with their onsite colleagues. Remote students have the opportunity, if they choose, to come to campus on Friday, April 16th or 23rd to complete either the AzM2 or AzSCI. Please follow this link to sign up for a date: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/remotelearners Passing these exams are not currently a graduation requirement for high school students. However, we ask that you encourage your child to take their assessments seriously and prepare for this test as best as possible. Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Tidwell at 579-4412, or email m.a.tidwell@maranausd.org. Thank you and have a great week.
